Silence.
It was deafening, almost frightening.
The two lovers stared at each other for only God knows how long. The man who stood before Maria was not the Diablo that she saw last week. This one was a lot slimmer, more disoriented, and tired. His hair was a mess, his eyes were red, and the evidence of fatigue was written all over his face.
"What happened to you?" Maria asked, not bothering to hide the bewilderment in her tone.
He rubbed his eyes with the back of his palm and said, "Yeah, um, business has not exactly been the best." He explained, and Maria's scowl deepened. "Would you like to come in?" He asked her before stepping aside for her to walk in. With his hand, he made a gesture for her to step in, and Maria could not help but admire how much of a gentleman he had become.
