"I'm pregnant."
Maria prayed that this was all just a dream. Or maybe she hadn't heard correctly. Or maybe it was a prank. Whatever it was, the words that just left Jane's lips could not be true. She refused to believe it.
Jane tilted her head to the side after several seconds passed and Maria was yet to give a response. It was hard to tell what was going through her mind; her eyes were wide and unmoving. They were not staring at anything in particular; they just stayed focused on the space ahead of her.
"This is a joke, right?" Maria finally spoke, and Jane giggled. She took her friend's hands and placed them above her stomach.
"No, it's not. I'm two months in," Jane said, and Maria's eyes fell on her stomach. Now that Maria was taking her time to look at Jane, she could see that she had added a tad bit of weight. She wanted to believe that it was because Jane was mostly at home and that was the cause of her sudden glow, but no, this had to be a prank.
