"I want nothing to do with you," Diablo hissed as soon as Maria opened her eyes. There was nothing but cruelty and hatred swimming in his grey orbs. His frightening gaze would have made Maria flinch if not for the fact she was beyond exhausted. A part of her wished she had drowned in that lake. It would have been far better than having to live with those words stuck in her mind. Diablo, obviously not caring about the effects his words had on the soaking woman, continued, "We are even. This life-long feud is done. If you come anywhere near any of us or even dare interfere in my business, I wouldn't be this stupid to rescue you next time."
This was him. This was Diablo. The devil everyone feared.
It was like Maria was looking at a monster and not the man whom she had started to fall for. Actually, she had already fallen for him. But the way he looked at her made her feel like they were back to square one.
