Maria could see the stupefied expression on Jane's face as she looked her up and down. Everything about Maria had changed. Her eyes were darker, her skin was not as pale as it was the last time she saw her, but it was glowing like that of a model's. Her stance was a lot more intimidating and her hair was a lot longer. For a moment, Jane doubted the woman standing in front of her; she made her feel a sense of fear which was something her best friend never did.
"Has she been searched?" Caesar asked the guard that had brought Maria. The arrangement was for Maria to wait at an abandoned fuel station where Caesar's men would pick her up and search her thoroughly. Then they would take her to an old warehouse that was supposedly owned by the Fatigars. The guard nodded affirmatively. Caesar asked, "Did you make sure she was not followed?"
"Si, senor." The guard answered, making Caesar smirk confidently.
