Maria's heart broke for the man standing before him, "That's horrible," she whispered, the empathy in her voice evident.
"It doesn't matter, it's in the past," he brushed off, not giving her a chance to console him whatsoever. "We should get started. Show me your stance and attack with everything I taught you within the last few days." His voice had become more serious. Maria nodded. She took off her jacket and laid it gently on the bike before getting into her stance. "That's good."
Her brows raised, had he just commended her?
"But your shoulders are slumped and your fists are too close to your face."
She spoke too soon.
The two trained for over an hour, Maria felt like her bones were slowly turning into dust.
"Get back-"
"To my stance," Maria completed with a roll of her eyes. Her eyes trailed downwards to his exposed chest. Her eyes almost welled with tears, how could anyone do that to their child?
