Leaning over the crude array of cages, my finger found its way to the bars of a certain cage, where a pitiful, adorable creature the shade of my hair was cowering in the corner.
"Don't do that," the beast tamer anxiously reached out, then halted. His eyes darted between me and Lois behind.
For some reason, he had been the one to volunteer to be the one to take us after lunch. At first, Silas refused him, but he whispered something to him and Silas suddenly agreed.
"Do you want it?" Silas asked eagerly beside me, his hand resting on mine to pull it back from the bars.
The creature raised the head it had tucked under its bushy tail, then peered up at me.
I wanted it. I actually really, really wanted it.
"What is it?" I turned to the Beast Tamer. I couldn't just carelessly agree without knowing enough to care for it.
