My feet stung, burning from friction as I enabled System to boost my speed. Literal smoke emitted, alongside the faint smell of burning rubber. Ignoring it, I made my way uphill through the cobbled streets and toward already ruined buildings.
I'd done my best to head toward the direction of the last snake shriek I'd heard. Hopefully, it had been from Dax and his men killing it. I hoped they were prepared for round two.
"To your left," System shouted, making me almost fall flat on my face as I ducked and rolled left. Feeling the burning sensation as I'd shed a layer of skin from my bare arm, I let out a sharp hiss.
Acid melted the spot I had just been on.
"Fuck," I cursed, pushing myself back up to my feet. Would I even make it to the soldiers in time?
The hiss was no longer faint behind me. The sounds of stone and rubble crunching under its scales also grew louder.
I really would not make it in time.
