"I said I want to go home already!"
"Lucky, son please..."
"Mom!"
I stared outside the window in this small wooden house where I and my parents stayed for almost a week.
I really hate this place, signal's not that strong, there's no internet and even a proper channel! I can't believe that I survived here, it's so boring.
I glared at my parents' direction, they're with that fisherman again, the one who fetch us from the port and tour us around.
My parents planned to stay here for two weeks, but I can't take it anymore! I want to go home! I want to go back to the city! I stared outside again my brows furrowed when the dark clouds started to scatter above. What a good timing, rain.
I flinched when I saw the beautiful but dangerous line of a lightning followed by the loud sound of a thunder. I never like any of those.
"Lucky, the fisherman said it might be dangerous if we go home now." my mom explained calmly.
I glanced at my dad, he's with the fisherman, they're still talking.
"And why would you listen and believe to a mere fisherman, Mom?" I raised my left brow.
Good thing my dad's far from our place. He'll scold me once he hears the way I answered my mom... And my choice of words too. I admit, I grew up being a spoiled brat.
"Lucky, do you really want to go home?" my dad asked while walking towards us.
"Yes, Dad. Let's go back to the city please." I did it, I used it.
My dad sighed before glancing at the fisherman, he nodded, "Fine."
I automatically smiled after hearing his defeat, "Really!?" I need to act.
"Yes, son. I thought you'll be happy once we take a break from the business." he said.
I hugged my dad, "I am happy, Dad. A week is enough, I know both of you are busy, besides... I need to review. You know… multiple exams." I said while smiling.
"Oh. Are you planning to replace Einstein huh? You're bright already. Even if you don't review, I know you'll ace it." my dad said while caressing my head.
My face crumpled when I saw the fisherman's smiling face while listening to us. Why is he smiling? Can he even understand us?
"You have two sons, right? They won't come with you?" my dad suddenly asked.
I was clueless.
"Nako, Senyor hindi na po—"
"Sasama po ako, Tay!" the three of us looked at the two guys who're running towards us.
"Bakit kayo nandito?" the fisherman asked.
"Sasama po ako, Tay." the tall guy answered. He doesn't look so poor in my eyes, the three of them actually. They're a bit good looking for a common islander. Tall, has a nice shade of brown skin and muscular.
"Bakit hindi pa kayo tulog? May klase pa kayo bukas."
"Sasama na po ako, Tay." the tall guy insisted, then he walked towards my direction, he handed me an orange life vest.
"Isuot mo." he demanded, I glared at him before grabbing the vest out of his hand. But I didn't wear it, why would? I think it has germs, though it doesn't look dirty, I still don't want to wear it.
The two of them looked at each other, the small one looked pissed at my actions towards his older brother. But I didn't care, They're not important anyway.
After that the tall guy handed two vests for my parents, and they wore it.
"Joseph, pupunta ba kayo sa port? Sasabay na sana kami ng asawa ko." a middle-aged man asked the fisherman.
"Oo, maghahatid ako saglit."
"Ah ganoon ba. Ma'am, Sir!" the man greeted my parents, "Makikisabay ho sana kami papuntang port, may bibilhin lang. Naglilihi kasi itong asawa ko, ayaw naman pong magpaiwan."
"Oh, It's fine. Sure, join us." my father said happily.
I scoffed, why did he agree? There are enough peasants already.
"Nako mukhang babagyo pa yata, samahan nakitang magtulak ng bangka, Joseph." the man offered before walking towards the boat.
"Umuwi kana." I glanced at them when I heard the tall guy said something.
"Mag-ingat kayo, Kuya." the younger one said before giving me a cold glanced.
What? Why is he looking at me like that? It's rude to look in that way with older ones, no?
I think we have the same height, but I'm sure I am older. But his brother's older than us.
"Oo, mag-ingat ka rin sa paglalakad. Matulog ka na rin, 'wag mo na kaming hintayin ng Tatay, may klase ka pa bukas." I looked away when the older brother glanced at my direction before looking at his brother again.
"Sumakay na kayo, Itutulak namin ni Narding ang bangka."
"Tutulong po ako, Tay." the tall guy said.
My parents started to climb on a long like ladder wood before sitting on the boat.
I looked around to know if someone's looking, I smiled a little before tossing the vest near a big rock.
But my eyes widen when I heard a fake cough somewhere. I turn around and then I saw the younger one.
"H-hindi ka umuwi?" I tried my very best to speak tagalog properly. But I failed. Damn the slang.
The guy just shook his head before walking towards the big rock where I threw the vest, he picked it then walks away without answering me. So rude!
I run towards the shore before hopping on the boat. Good thing no one notice that I'm not wearing a vest. The only light we have is the lamp located in front of the boat.
My heart started to beat faster when I saw the dark clouds again, sometimes it's flicking. Thunder and lightning.
After a few minutes I heard the starting engine of the boat, finally!
I was looking at vast dark water of the sea, I was so sleepy already but then the small boat started to shake. It's too dark for me to see but I tried my best to look around, using the light from the front of the boat, I saw some big waves coming towards our direction. We will be fine right?
I started to panic, something's not right here. I looked above, there's water, small volume of water. It will rain. I looked at my parents' direction, they're calm. The pregnant woman, his husband, the fisherman and the tall guy, all of them are calm! Am I being paranoid again?
I tried my very best to calm myself, but the big volume of waves didn't help. The vest! I threw it!
I was busy figuring out how to calm myself when we heard a loud explosion.
All of us looked back just to see the boat's engine is on fire! The fisherman and the other one immediately took a dry cloth before dipping it down on the water from the sea and covered it on the engine, now we're stuck.
"May bagyo ba ngayon? Walang nasabi sa radyo kanina ah." the other guy said to the fisherman.
"Hindi ko rin alam, Narding. Nasira ang makina, delikado tayo dito." the fisherman answered.
"May sagwan ka ba? May sagwan na tayo, pag-nakarating sa port, hiram tayo ng makina para makabalik." the man suggested.
They started to move again as well as the son of the fisherman. My brows furrowed when I saw a big wave coming towards us, I panicked. All of them are too busy to notice!
"There's a wave-" I was too late.
The boat swayed when the big wave smashed on it, I thought it was done but no! It was followed by multiple big waves!
The boat lost its balance, I closed my eyes when I was about to fall in the deep dark sea when a strong hand gripped my arm, it's the fisherman! I don't want to be touch by a filthy man, but I got no choice, I will die!
He quickly removed his vest then made me wear it, the wood that balances the boat started to rock again. I looked around to find my parents, I saw them holding each other's hands, my mom's drowning! I remember, she can't swim. Despite of the loud sound of the thunder and big waves I heard my father's desperate voice, calling my name as loudly as he can.
"Dad!" I shouted to inform him that I am still alive.
"Tay!" I heard the tall guy shouted before he removed his vest from his body before jumping towards his struggling father.
The cruel waves started to move again, followed by the heavy rain and lightning.
I roamed my eyes around while moving my hands, I saw the couple struggling to save each other.
I coughed many times when the water started to enter my mouth and nose. My blurry eyes started to drop because of exhaustion.
I heard some loud and desperate screams coming from the people around me, and that's the last thing I remember before passing out.
I was panting when I woke up, that nightmare again, it started again.
Yes, I survived from that nightmare, unfortunately my parents didn't. As for the other people? I don't know and I don't care, they're at fault! Those peasants!
I slowly brushed my hair using my hand and fingers, I need to get up now.
After I survived from that tragedy, I woke up in a private hospital just to see our family lawyer and his son, my only friend. My family members? I don't even know their whereabouts. Both of those sides are... after my parents' money.
The most trusted person right now is our family lawyer who trained me and guard me. I was only sixteen when that tragedy happened. I may be bright, but I don't know that many about life, besides I was underage.
"Lucky, handa na ang kape mo." the old maid said after knocking on my expensive door.
Lucky huh. Well, guess I am lucky cause I survived.
