A wolf's funeral was held in two parts. The first part was the burial, and the second, was the resurrection.
It wasn't a resurrection per se. The person didn't come back to life. Bruce was gone, and nothing they would do would bring him back. But the spirit of the wolf wasn't lost, and it would need guidance as it sought to still protect its pack.
This was one of the greatest features of the Elders of the Wolf Packs. They existed to guide the wolf's spirit to peace, to keep it so that it still protected its pack, and so that it didn't become any kind of vengeful spirit, wreaking havoc on the very wolves that it was meant to protect.
This part of the funeral ceremony was attended by fewer people. Only two people for each deceased were allowed, and they would be the ones that would be used to ground the wolf's spirit to the pack borders.
Layla knew that it would be her last chance to see her father. Or his wolf form, at least.
