"What are you talking about?" Arden moved forward from his chair. His hands gripped the armrests until his knuckles turned white. "Don't talk bullshit with me, Roderick. Why doesn't she want to wake up?"

Arden's tone rose and Roderick looked displeased to hear that, but Arden didn't care. Roderick was saying something that made absolutely no sense now. Of course, that made Arden angry.

"She feels guilty for her father."

"No, she's not," Arden denied. That reasoning sounded so ridiculous that Arden snorted a bitter laugh. "She hates him. She wants him to die," he said as if that were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Arden," Roderick said Arden's name with an emphasis that made Arden feel odd about his own name. "We are not human. We don't have a family and we will never understand the complicated feelings in a family bond."

"There's no such thing as complicated feelings in that shit."

"Watch your mouths!"
