Runa thought Mandy would faint. She was ready to catch Mandy, in case her best friend collapsed. The mark on Runa's hand flashed brightly, and she aimed it at the snake demon.
The mark made the demon groan in pain, but did not destroy it.
"Shit," Runa cursed. One hand gripped Mandy tightly, keeping her from falling. "Let's go from here."
"Wha—did you just say 'shit'?" Mandy widened her eyes in surprise.
"Yes! And now is not the time to be surprised by that!" Runa replied, half screaming.
They turned and were about to get out of there, but the demon was quick. Its tail wagged, and the demon slammed it towards Runa and Mandy. The two of them jumped onto the stairs leading to the top just in time. The place where the tail hit now left a hissing, black drag.
"Hurry!" Runa ordered, telling Mandy to climb the stairs.
