Runa tried not to run after the maid, who came up to her bedroom. She glanced at Sophia, making sure she wasn't paying attention, then Runa walked up the stairs and stopped in the middle when she saw the maid coming down.
Runa's heart jolted at once.
"Miss," said the maid, looking at her.
"Yes? What is it?" Runa asked calmly, although now she was feeling very tense. She looked at the maid's hands, but the maid brought nothing.
The maid smiled and descended the stairs until they were level. "Thanks for tidying up the room." After that, she went downstairs and headed to the kitchen.
Runa frowned as she looked at the maid's back. She went up and see the state of her room.
Runa's room is not messy, because she is a neat person. But she remembered she had not had time to make the bed. It should have been a mess, but someone had spruced the pillows and blankets.
Runa then looked at the nightstand. The book wasn't there.
