Chapter 17 - Tail Talk

Tesk's mana infused hands begin to lightly massage my tail. I wait for a moment for her to get a feel for it while it's "normal". Then I begin to channel a small amount of wind magic through the room, creating a small breeze.

Behind me, my tail rings gain the lightest tinge of green. If not for her mana infused sight, Tesk would have missed it.

Focusing more on what her hands are feeling, she frowns. "Seka, please increase the amount of mana you're channeling. I'll tell you when it's enough."

I do so, keeping an eye on my mana bar as I do so. At the moment, I haven't even channeled enough that it goes past my regeneration. I slowly up the amount, the generated wind increasing as I do. My rings gradually turn greener as well, the color somehow complimenting my marmalade tail as they do.

Once I'm channeling twenty mana a minute, she tells me to stop. I do so and hear her groan.

"I meant stop increasing the amount. Not to stop channeling your mana."

"..."

Right, I knew that.

Once I'm channeling twenty mana a minute again, I stop increasing the amount. At this point there's a decent wind going through the room, making me glad that there weren't any papers lying around.

Tesk continues massaging my tail, and like she said, for the first minute it was uncomfortable. Scratch that, it HURT! I hold back a hiss as tears gather at the corner of my eyes again, this time from actual pain, but they don't fall.

After the first minute though, the pleasure hits. Though it's more like getting a massage.

I can feel my whole body relaxing as time passes. 'Yeah, definitely a massage.'

At some point I begin to purr and enter that half-asleep state you get when you feel like there's nothing you NEED to do, and nothing you really WANT to do.

My grip on my magic is tenuous, and I lose control of it completely when Tesk spanks me again.

I yelp and jump, the wind blowing through the room falling as I lose the connection.

This time, I really did jump and as such am now standing, staring at Tesk with my cheeks puffed out. She has an awkward look on her face.

"What was that for!?" Seriously, if she was done she should have just said so!

She scratches her cheek. "Um, well," she hesitates, "I tried telling you I was done, but you didn't respond! I shook you, but still nothing. So I tried smacking you, and now you're awake."

She shakes her head before looking at me in admiration. "It's impressive how you can maintain a connection with your spell while sleeping. I can see that being both extremely dangerous, and extremely useful."

I blink at her. "How so? Oh, and I wasn't asleep, just mostly." I correct her quickly, I don't want this to turn into some kind of thing later on.

She looks at me, and I can see a bit of doubt in her eyes but she doesn't say anything about it. "Well, as you know mana regenerates at three percent per minute, and health at one percent. Something most people don't realize though, is that these rates double while you sleep. It's probably due to this phenomenon that you're mana didn't empty out completely during my examination."

"Really? How long was I out for?" I stretch my arms above my head, deciding to forgive her spank.

"About thirty minutes." Her words make me blink and I instinctively check my mana. Just over two hundred, about half. I'm about to tell her before I remember that I mentioned having two hundred mana.

A bit of quick math tells me that at two hundred mana, using twenty mana a minute and accounting for regeneration, I would have been out of mana by fifteen minutes. So by her understanding, the only way I could have still had mana after thirty minutes would be if I was sleeping.

Obviously I'm not going to tell her that I lied about my mana, so I guess I'll just have to let the misunderstanding stand. I give a mental sigh. 'This is totally going to be an issue at some point.' I can practically hear a flag flapping in the wind.

"Huh," I shrug. "Anyways, what did you find out about my tail?" When in doubt, ignore the issue! That only makes things worse about three quarters of the time.

Tesk gives me a look as I retake my seat, but goes along with it. "Well, for some reason it seems like your tail is a receptacle for mana."

She taps her chin. "Or maybe more like a focus? Either way, when you use magic, mana gathers in your tail. Regardless of the effect of the magic, whether you shoot fire from your hands or create a barrier of air ten feet away. The magic will gather in your tail before it releases."

She frowns. "While it enhances your magic and exempts you from needing a staff to augment your magic, if your tail is damaged in a fight it may weaken your magic."

I stare at her as I contemplate the information.

'So my tail is like a staff for regular mages? Normally a staff will work as a power up for certain spells, or in rarer cases certain types of magic. This allows mages to use more powerful spells than they normally would, or improves the power or effect of spells.

But my tail is kind of like a living staff, and grows stronger as I grow stronger? And on top of that my mana gathers there when I use magic? Does it pool there when I'm not using magic too!?

So to sum it up, my 'mana core' for lack of a better word, is in my tail, and it's also a living weapon that improves as I do? What the f*ck!? No way I can let anybody learn about this, I'll definitely be hunted down and stripped of my tail if anybody finds out.'

My eyes are drawn to Tesk, who's squirming next to me. Seeing my curiosity, she speaks.

"Um, well, this is kind of awkward..." Deep breath. She shouts.

"CAN I PLEASE CUT OFF YOUR TAIL TO CREATE A STAFF FOR MYSELF!? I PROMISE THAT I CAN GET YOU A REGENERATION POTION SO THAT YOU'LL GET IT BACK RIGHT AWAY! I'LL PAY!?

"..."

'F******************CK'
