Chapter 10 - The Adventurer's Guild

Somewhere. A city in the kingdom of Felsinar. It isn't a particularly large kingdom. At least compared to my old world. This world is around five times larger than Earth, with the continents scaled to match.

The one Felsinar is located on is known as Dalen. There are several kingdoms on Dalen, but my general knowledge ability doesn't cover those, which is kind of irritating. On the bright side, I now know that this kingdom prohibits discrimination, and keeps slavery tightly regulated.

I'm distracted from absorbing the rest of the information by some red-faced adventurer getting up from his table in what looks like a bar area. "Wha-! *DONG* Before he can finish his first word, a frying pan hits him on the back of the head. He drops like a stone face first onto his table. His companions seem to know that this was going to happen, seeing as they had already picked their plates off the table before he crashed.

I blink at them as a brown haired woman comes out of the kitchen. Presumably the cook. She waves at me. "Sorry about that doll, Dave is always trying to pick fights with anyone who comes in. Just ignore him." She walks over to the unconscious Dave, picks up her frying pan, and walks back to the kitchen.

I'm still standing in front of the door, blinking, trying to figure out what exactly just happened. I look around, and other than a few people who are still staring at me, everyone has ignored the commotion.

I point at Dave. "Uh, should someone get help for him or something?"

One of his companions chuckle as they put their food on their fixed table. "Nah, don't worry about it. Happens all the time." He waves away my concern and returns to his food.

I take one last look at Dave before shrugging. Not my business, not my problem.

I finally look around the building, taking it all in. On the far side of the room are some booths where people are lined up. Above each booth is a label, telling you which line you should go. On my right is a notice board where various requests are posted. There aren't many people there right now though, which makes sense since it's starting to get dark. On my left is the dining area, including a long counter bar.

I make my way to the booths and look at the labels. I mutter under my breath, "Requests, turn in, turn in, turn in, collections, ah. Sign up." I approach the booth on the far right, where there is no line. There I find a young human woman reading a book.

I stand there for a moment, waiting for her to acknowledgement. She ignores me in favor of turning a page in her book. I clear my throat to get her attention and she jumps. She readjusts her glasses as she looks at me. "Oh, sorry about that." She puts a bookmark in her book and puts it to the side facedown. "How may I help you?"

I glance at the book, briefly wondering about how good it might be before turning my attention back to the receptionist. "I'd like to register as an adventurer please." No need to be rude, and politeness costs me nothing.

She nods. "Of course. I can give you the application to fill out, then I can get someone to administer a test of your capabilities. You will then be issued your guild card."

I clear my throat. "Is there any way we can. um, expedite the process? There's a guard outside waiting for me to get my card so he can get back to his post." The guy was friendly, so I feel a bit bad that he needs to wait for me.

"Ah, I see. Well, we can't really expedite it..." She pauses to think for a moment. "I suppose you can skip most of the form for now, seeing as we only need your name and the form of combat you use." Her eyes briefly unfocus. "... And your mana signature. Once you hit level ten and get your class, the information will be updated to the card instantly. Your mana signature is what will allow the guard to know if any bounties match up with your identity."

I nod and take a pen from the booth. I quickly fill in my name, and for combat style I put 'Mage/Brawler'. Afterall, the attack I used on Kyle killed him near instantly when I was level one! Plus, I want to take advantage of the fact that I have claws.

The receptionist accepts the form back and gives it a quick glance. "Seka? And a magic brawler? An interesting name and fighting style... Well, let's get the practical done so that poor guard can get back to work." She does something behind the booth, and two doors pop open on the side of the wall. We enter them, and inside is a large room with a dirt floor.

Next to the doors we came in from are a row of buttons with symbols. She pushes two of them. One has the image of a staff with a crystal ball on the end, and the other is a picture of two fists colliding in a show of force. A few minutes later two people come out of the door I entered from. I remember seeing them at the bar dining area.

The woman is taller than me at five foot seven, wearing a short robe that comes down to mid-thigh, honestly, I would call it more of a dress than a robe if not for the style. Her black hair is tied up in a ponytail behind her. She also has a wand in her hands made out of some kind of purple wood. She's human.

The man is a solid six feet, and is decked out in leather armor except for his hands. On his hands are a pair of metal gauntlets. On the back of them are little ridges, and I wonder what they could be for as I take in his face. He's handsome, I guess. Nothing really stands out about it really. His brown hair is cut short and there's a smile on his face.

The receptionist speaks. "These two will be testing you. Trel will be testing your skills as a brawler, and Tesk will test your skills as a mage." She gives a look at Trel. "And since you don't have any equipment, Trel won't be using any either, RIGHT?"

He gets an awkward look on his face before he looks away. "Of course, do you really think I would use my gauntlets to fight an unarmed, unarmored opponent?"

'''Yes, you would,''' is what we're all thinking, but nobody says anything out loud.

He begins to take off his gauntlets as the receptionist looks at me. "So, who would you like to fight first?"
