"As your servant, my lady," said Daniel, holding his cloak and bowed.
Susan blushed as Daniel bowed to her. There was no reason Daniel bowed to a civilian girl. In doing so, he was just teasing her.
She looked at the noble man, who also seemed to smile faintly.
Susan somehow suddenly became a little bit angry. In a fit of anger, she quickly curtseyed towards the nobleman, elegantly, smoothly, beautiful like a swan saying goodbye.
Thanks to Shadow's perverted training every night, Susan's curtsy was perfect. Even the Lady-in-waiting for the court could not do better than her.
Then Susan raised her head and gave the nobleman a cold glare and, as expected, saw a slight surprise on his face.
Good.
Susan was satisfied. She slightly hold the hem of her dress, turned around like a lady, and nodded toward Daniel: "Let's go."
Daniel blinked in surprise, but then he gave Susan another bright smile. This time he walked quickly ahead of Susan and asked in a delight tone, "At your service, my beautiful lady, may I have the honor to know the destination should I serve you?"
Susan was about to answer, but at that moment, there was a sudden, sharp, rhythmic knock on the door of the room.
Someone quickly opened the door, and a man flashed in. He didn't seem surprised to see Susan, ignored her, and bowed to the nobleman at the end of the room.
"Here he is, my Lord."
Then he disappeared behind the door as quickly as he had come.
Susan stared in surprise at the resealed door. After a few breaths, she realized that this man was supposed to be a lookout, and she didn't notice him before, probably because he was a secret sentry.
So,
"Here he is."
Who?
And what about me?
Susan suddenly turned and looked at the nobleman, seeing a calm and dignified face and an emotionless smile.
Susan didn't want anything to do with the visitors.
She did not want to know whether it was a man or a woman or whether there was a conspiracy.
Before Susan could trot out of the room, another knock was suddenly at the door.
This time the knock was distinctly different, as if the knocker had struck the door with his fist, brutal and irresistible.
Has the visitor arrived already?
Susan froze, didn't know what to do.
Daniel grabbed Susan by her arm, quickly backed up to the wall, and lowered his voice, said sharply: "Keep your head down."
Susan did what he said, but she was not fast enough. Daniel already flipped her cloak hood up and pressed down on her head.
The wide hood directly covered most of Susan's face,
Great!
Now, let alone see who the visitor is, even the road is almost invisible.
She can now only see the piece of a floor at the front of her feet.
The door opened again, and bright light poured in from outside.
Messy footsteps sounded, and several dark figures flashed quickly in the front of Susan's eyes, entering the room and then standing still.
Then, a long, thin, dark shadow appeared on the floor, smooth sliding in Susan's limited eyesight, the hem of the dusty cloak, and a pair of red pointed leather shoes.
The dark shadow walked at a deliberate pace into the room.
Susan heard an old, kindly voice:
"Henry! My old friend, look at you! You look as radiant as ever, and it seems that the war in the north is going well?"
"Thanks for your blessing, the war is going well, and I will not die for a while." The nobleman replied coldly.
"Hahahaha, seeing you makes my old bones feel better. Gods bless the Queen, my friend."
"Gods bless the Queen."
At that moment, Susan felt Daniel gave a strong tug on her cloak and said urgently: "Let's leave, now."
Daniel led her quickly toward the door that had not yet closed. Susan followed closely.
But an arm suddenly appeared in front of Susan, stopped her, and some rude voice asked: "Who is this?"
Susan's heart gave a little jump of fear, and she stood still, hiding her face deeply under the hood shadow.
At that moment, the arm that stopped her suddenly raised upward, Susan alerted that the person was trying to lift her hood, and she instinctively dodged.
Daniel then blocked the man's hand.
"For your sake, better watch your own hands," Daniel warned in a cold voice.
The two stared at each other, and no one would give in.
Susan froze and couldn't help but hold her breath.
At this moment, idly, the nobleman's voice came from the room's far end: "Why? Your grace is interested in my subordinate?"
"Subordinate? I never knew that, Henry. When did you start having female subordinates?" The old man said with a smile.
The nobleman replied with a question: "These days, who have not a few female subordinates?"
The old man was silent for a moment. Then he gave out a funny laugh.
"That's true. You know Henry, whatever how many female subordinates they have, I will not be interested in taking a second look. But your female subordinates, my dear friend, I'm curious."
