Chapter 20 - Forming a Legion

Yet again, I found myself sitting in General Kroos's office. He seemed quite relaxed, which was quite surprising with everything going on.

This might be the result of the half empty liquor bottle on his desk. Somehow he didn't appear drunk in the slightest. Maybe he was just really good at hiding it.

Timo smiled at me. "Well, Soryn, have you heard the news?"

I shook my head, curious what happened. It'd only been a day since I had seen him last and we were set to ship out tomorrow. "What happened?"

He sighed, shaking his head. "The Empire has attacked Alderaan. We are shipping out early. Jedi Master Satele Shan will be leading the reinforcements."

I nodded, understanding the reasoning. "Alright. Is there more?"

He nodded, smiling wryly. "Throughout the day, I'll be meeting with each of the passing officers in the order that they scored on the exam from highest to lowest. Unfortunately, I can not reward you with that promotion yet. You'll need to prove that you deserve it first. However, it will be much easier than most others have it."

I smiled brightly, happy to hold such a high position. "Thank you, sir. I wanted to ask though, how am I the only one that got a perfect score?"

He chuckled. "It's not that surprising, but it is disappointing. Fresh soldiers are notorious for following orders to a T. The orders given were to kill everyone in the building. You were the only one that secured the civilians rather than executing them."

I sighed, shaking my head. "Most of the other travelers… they don't have much attachment to this world. I just act as I would on the other side."

Timo smiled warmly. "That's good to hear. We need more like you. Anyways, the purpose of this meeting is to put together your legion." He grabbed a datapad and pushed it across the table. "I have a list here of unassigned soldiers. The travelers are marked with a T and the others are marked with an N. Since the other graduates are only at the rank of Captain, they will only have a battalion. You, however, will get an entire legion. Unfortunately, I can only give you 200 troops right now since we are shipping out in only several hours. However, you'll get the rest after your tour on Alderaan. Is that clear?"

I nodded. "Yes, sir. I only have 4 people to request. Other than that, I just need an adequate spread of natives, travelers, and specialists of both kinds. Permission to proceed?"

Timo nodded. "Permission granted. Just scroll through the list and select the 4 you want. I'll have someone put together the rest. What will you name this legion?"

I smirked. "Steel Legion, sir."

Timo chuckled and smacked his desk. "I like that name. I'll have some gray paint provisioned to decorate everyone's armor. Proceed to the armory to retrieve your equipment. You can also deposit your belongings. You can also leave that fancy speeder of yours in the vehicle bay."

I laughed as I scrolled through the list. "I appreciate the consideration, sir."

As I went through the list, I selected my dad, Galen, Jordan, and Taylor. Jordan and Taylor's names in the game were Jeremiah Stahn and Tomas Oren.

I placed the datapad back on the table, sliding it towards Timo. "I've made my selections, sir."

Timo nodded, glancing at the highlighted names. "You'll have your hands full with Private Galen. While he is quite talented, he already has two demerits."

I rolled my eyes. "That fucking clown."

He raised his brow in curiosity. "Hm? You know him?"

I shook my head. "Yeah, we are friends. That speeder belongs to both of us, sir."

Timo blinked a few times, clearly surprised. "Oh, I wouldn't have expected that. Well, strange times we live in. Anyways, I need to meet with the other graduates and get them started. Just go complete your tasks and you'll be all set. You are dismissed."

I stood up, saluted him, and then left the room. My destination was now the armory. Aside from this, I only had a few hours to get my affairs in order. I was sure that there would be a mandatory lineup and inspection at least a few hours before we would ship out later tonight. I didn't really have that much to be concerned about. It was a short list of extremely expensive items.

The speeder was already taken care of and I could honestly just deposit my boots at the armory. However, that still left the most valuable item in my possession. In fact, it was probably the most valuable item held by players at the moment. Galen probably had something of equal value but that's besides the point.

I wasn't sure if I could trust something that valuable with the armory. I could also sell it, but that wouldn't be a good idea. Aside from it being an inelastic good, meaning that the demand would never change, the Republic is supposed to lose this war.

Once they lose, the value of the credit would probably fall a lot. This would mean that I could get more for the coaxium once the economy falters.

I just had to find somewhere to keep it safe for now. Thinking about it, I decided that the best option would be to conceal it and then place it in the bank. I just had to make sure I took it out before the war reached Coruscant. If I didn't, it'd be as good as lost.

About an hour later, I parked my speeder at the vehicle bay, asking the technicians there to keep it in storage until I returned from my tour. With that done, I headed over to the armory. It was time to get geared.

The armory took up one of the hangars outside. There was a long line outside. I sighed, imagining how long I'd have to wait. However, I quickly noticed that there was another queue with barely any people in it. I decided that I had nothing to lose so I checked it out.

I walked up to the woman at the back of the line. "Excuse me, what is this line for?"

She turned around to me and smiled after noticing my medical corps uniform. "This line is for officers. We get more equipment and special armor so it takes a bit longer. They separated it for that reason."

I smiled and nodded, getting into line behind her. I held out my hand. "Captain Soryn Brenko, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

She nodded, shaking my hand. "I'm Commander Trisch Yakamura. Are you a new officer?"

I nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I just graduated from the expedited program."

Trisch chuckled. "I see. No wonder I didn't see you in my registry. All of you kids got put under Commander Ulysses. He's the Jedi Master Shan's right hand man. I'm kinda jealous he gets to hang out with that smoke show."

I laughed, she was kinda funny. "That's good to know. Oh, it looks like it's your turn."

Trisch looked behind her, noticing that the requisition desk was empty. "You are very right. See you on Alderaan, kid."

I smiled and nodded. "Safe travels, commander."
