Chapter 1 - Introduction/Chapter 0

It was almost 300 years ago when out of no where highly intelligent robots invaded country after country and slowly took over the whole world. In a last ditch effort everyone on earth had to evacuate underground and governments worldwide ordered to bomb the surface. 15 years later, the shlter doors opened and the first scouts were send to check the surface. By then everything had changed.

Eventhough there have been 137 official atomic bomb launches there were no signs of radiation. Not only that, but nothing else that could have reminded of the old world was found either. Only some overgrown walls from destroyed buildings have been found. And not only did things disappear, but earths surface was now overgrown by dense forests(naturally climate zones were still visible). It felt like a different planet. People realised very fast that things were no longer the same, even physicly impossible things were now normal. On top of that new species and materials were found daily. The things that were written in old mythology storys were now not far from reality.

The year is 273 after day zero. People have gradually adapted.

And even though progress was lost, people developed new ideas and new inventions at a rapid pace and after roughly another 50 years the first caster was born and with him mana was discovered. Over the years more and more casters were born and mankind learnt how to use mana and the with it coming magic to their advantage.

Today almost everyone possesses control over atleast one of the 4 magic elements. The most common one is earth. More than two thirds of the population can use it. People who posses this ability can often use some form of body inhancement (they can overcome the limitations of the human body for some time) and/or are able to use telekinesis.

The second most common would be wind. Wind may be less common than earth, but still about 40% of the population are able to cast it. In contrast to earth wind has less usefull applications. Wind casters can freely control the surrounding air and around 80% of them can use it to hover or in some cases even fly.

The third element is fire and is actually rather rare. Only 0.5 % or less can cast fire magic. Most fire casters become hunters or warriors, because of their destructive powers. They can shoot fire arrows and infuse other objects with fire. The caster himself is immune to fire and often has greater physical strength than the normal person. Even though they are a minority many people fear them.

The fourth and rarest element is water. Rumors say that only one person out of 100 million can use it. Water is the exact opposite to fire. Atleast most of the time. Water casters can heal people from diseases and wounds, there are even reported cases where entire body parts were regenerated. Appart from their healing abilities they are also the strongest fighters. Even without casting they have insane physical strength and speed. Good water casters can also use it as their weapon by forming it into strong beams similar to the fire casters arrows. On top they are able to create water shields that are almost impossible to break. People say it takes 5 strong fire casters to beat the weakest water caster.

Now you might wonder if people can control more than one element and if you paid close attention you may already know. For all that don't, the short answer is yes. It just becomes rarer depending on the number of elements and on what kind of element it is.

You may also wonder what i meant when i said that the stronger you are the better your casting would be. When you are born u have a given threshold of mana. The more mana you can hold the more spells you can use. Although spells don't have an exact mana cost you can roughly tell how much it's gonna use. If you want to increase your mana threshold you can do that by simply casting spells. However the rate of improvement varies for every one. It also slows down when you are able to hold more mana. It's similar to how it gets harder to build muscle the bigger u get. Ah and if u surpass a certain amount off mana u can gain control over new elements. The amount of mana needed varies for every one. For example some people might gain wind before earth.
