Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 - A Warm Home

"Master," a light knock on the door as Oran stepped in with a small pile of papers, "I've found out a few details about Richard Wilson and the territory he owns."

"Go on." Raina nodded,

"Well, he's 26 years old and was the CEO of a major company back before the apocalypse. We believe he was framed by the government for something he didn't do and was almost bankrupt when he joined the Rift. That being said, now in the apocalypse, there are rumors that he hates anything to do with the exchange of wealth, but loves taking and hoarding that wealth himself. So if there's any store or major event involving the purchasing of goods, he goes there himself to stop it whilst taking the most expensive item for himself."

"Exchanging of monetary value...?" Raina frowned, "Is there such an event going on there soon?"

Oran nodded with a smile, holding up a small piece of A5-sized flyer, "An underground auction in 2 days."

Raina's eyes lit up as she finally paid her full attention, "And the main theme of the auction?"

"Slaves. Female slaves."

The smile on Raina's lips widened as she instantly bounced up, "Perfect. I'll head there right now,"

Her figure instantly faded into the shadows as she teleported outside the mansion, breathing in the fresh air as her lightly worn clothes swayed in the wind,

"This..." Raina's eyes widened as her mouth gaped open, "This is kind of overpowered!"

"[Freeform]" She chanted, picturing herself with blonde hair as she looked at the window of a nearby abandoned storefront, and sure enough, her previous pitch-black hair slowly faded to a beautiful soft golden blonde.

"This is fun," Raina giggled as she began dressing herself up, ending up with an innocent European-looking girl in her late teens or early twenties, keeping the same blonde hair, but adding a pair of large sapphire blue eyes, a small perky nose, and her breasts shrinking back to her previous C cups as she performed a little pose by the dark reflection of the store window.

Satisfied with the results, she once again hoped back into her shadow and jumped from one shadow to another, heading East as she occasionally popped out to check her approximate location.

"Bingo," Raina suddenly exclaimed as she jumped out of her shadow for the twenty-seventh time. A bright light pierced out from within every apartment window, creating an atmosphere of life and activity even though not a person was in sight, completely different from how it was back in her home territory where most of the residents lived off the candle and gas-burned torches.

"It's so pretty..." She let out a murmur as she walked towards it, drawn to the light.

"Hey!" A sudden hushed whisper nearby instantly jolted her out of her trance, "Girl!"

She quickly turned around and found the figure of a woman in her late 50s or early 60s peering out the window staring straight at her, waving her hand over,

"Come here! Hurry!" The woman urged, "Stop just standing there!"

Raina slowly jogged over stopping a few meters away from the window,

"Hello, ma'am," Raina let out an innocent smile,

"Hurry, get in here," The woman quickly lifted the window up and held out her hand to assist Raina.

Taking her hand and lifting herself up the open window, Raina instantly rolled in, plopping on the carpeted floor as she sat up and looked around,

"What in the world were you doing out there, child?" The woman slammed the window back down, locking it, and turned to face Raina, "Do you know how dangerous it is outside?" She scolded with a huff, setting out a soft sigh as she saw Raina's confused expression,

"I'm Mary. You can call me Mrs. Jones." The woman introduced, patting Raina on the head with a sigh, "What's your name, child?"

"...Alice," Raina replied,

"Alice," Mrs. Jones nodded, "Let's go have some dinner before we talk some more. I'm famished."

Mrs. Jones walked out of the room as Raina trailed slightly behind, her eyes wandering around the empty white room with curiosity.

"That's my husband, Reynold," Mrs Jones nodded over at the old man sitting by the kitchen, slowly eating a plate of spaghetti bolognese with slight tremors in his hands. Opposite him was another plate of bolognese barely eaten, "Sit down, I'll make you something as well,"

"How did you know I was out there?" Raina tilted her head as she watched Mrs. Jones turning on the gas and pouring a kettle of water into her pot,

"Clairvoyance," Mrs. Jones replied, "I have vision of every corner of this apartment within a 50-meter radius. I saw you out the corner of my eye so I went and got you,"

"Oh," Raina mumbled, sitting down as she gave Mr. Jones a polite nod.

"Now it's our turn for questions, Miss Alice" Mrs. Jones turned to Raina, "What were you doing out, just standing around in the open like that?"

"I-," She replied, "I'm looking for my family... I think they're in this territory somewhere."

"Your family?" Mrs. Jones frowned, "What's your family name?"

"...Liddell,"

"Sorry, I can't help you there," Mrs. Jones shook her head with a disappointed sigh, "But, I don't recommend you going out there again, not within the next few days. It's too dangerous."

"Why?" Raina's eyebrow shot up, "What's going on?"

Mrs. Jones shrugged, "I don't have a clue, but young girls like you, ones that have been living here since the beginning of the apocalypse have been going missing. More frequently than ever."

"They've been kidnapped," Mr. Jones' deep voice suddenly spoke, "Stuffed in a boot and drove away."

"Are you sure?" Raina turned to him with surprise,

"Saw it with my own two eyes a few blocks down," Mr. Jone slowly lifted his trembling hand up, pointing out the window, towards a nearby street,

"Honey, are you sure?" Mrs. Jones gasped, hands over her mouth, "Oh, dear,"

"Alice, you really have to be careful," She turned to Raina, "Please, why don't you just stay here for a few days? I can't have you running around when there are kidnappers out there."

"It's okay, Mrs. Jones," Raina smiled, "I can't burden you two with so much. Food's scarce as it is, and I bet my family's really worried about me, anyway. I'll take you up on the spaghetti, but I'll head out right after that,"

"Oh, alright darling. Just do be careful. How about you give us a call when you've found your family? So at least it'll stop us from worrying so much," Mrs. Jones took out a phone from her pocket,

"I-...I don't have one," Raina chuckled nervously. She never needed one in the apocalypse, nor could she have been able to use one, since it'll just drain out of battery after a few days.

"Here, here," Mrs. Jone hurriedly left the kitchen and came out a few minutes later with a slick black smartphone, "Take it. It was my son's, but he passed away 5 years ago,"

"I can't take that," Raina shook her head furiously, "Please keep it, I can't take something so important away from you,"

"Alice, Darling. I insist. If I ever had a daughter, I hope she would be exactly like you," Mrs. Jones smiled, forcing the phone into Raina's hand, "And if you don't, it'll just forever sit in my room, gathering dust."

"...Thank you..." Raina whispered, slowly wiping the screen with her hand as she looked at Mrs. Jone's warm smile, "Thank you so much,"

"Come on, I think the spaghetti's ready by now. Let's fill your stomach before you step out that door." Mrs. Jone nodded, plating the dish and gently placing it on the dining table.
