Chapter 1 - Prologue

Adrian's POV

It's been five days.

Five days since I lost everything.

Nothing has changed. I'm still here laying on the ground feeling useless and hopeless for five days straight. My eyes staring blankly into the sky as if I could find answers written on the clouds. My body wounded and scarred but every part of me feels so numb. My mind is still trying to comprehend and accept what has happened but it's too difficult. I keep escaping from reality. I don't even dare to think about what I have become.

I've become a failure.

I shouldn't have left my pack fighting without me when the incident happened. I shouldn't have listened to my father. I might've helped as much as I could but I didn't have a choice. They never gave me a single chance.

I ended up betraying my pack.

My father wanted me to run away as far I can and never return.

Why did my father only want me to escape?

Why didn't I turn around and fight back?

Why did I run?

All these questions keep wandering around my head.

My wolf urged me to get up from the ground and do what needs to be done. I shifted myself to my wolf form and started running in different directions. I gave my one last shot and linked the other members from my pack but still got no response from them.

They're all gone.

I'm all alone.

My wolf howls and grieves. Not knowing what to do anymore. My vision became blurry from the tears forming in my eyes but I haven't stopped running. There's no point in stopping.

Until I found a cliff.

I picked up my speed. Tears flying out from my eyes as I start to whimper. I couldn't endure the pain much longer.

It's over.

While heading towards the cliff I noticed a figure from afar, my eyes widened as the figure became more visible when I got closer.

It's a human.

A little girl.

I quickly came to a halt just right in front of her, the wind of my speed blew her hair up as leaves were flying around. Her eyes were closed shut but after a few seconds of silence her eyes slowly opened. A brown pair of eyes look up to me, showing a slight fear.

I just stared at her. Her now curious brown eyes blinked a couple times and stared back. Her head then tilted a little, showing a calm expression.

Her lips parted and began to speak.

"Hello there." She speaks. Her voice soft and quiet but enough for me to hear it.

I didn't react and kept studying her appearance. She is wearing a white dress with a garland on her head. Her long dark brown hair matches her dark brown eyes.

I didn't want to scare her nor run away and I'm not entirely sure why. It shouldn't matter even if she did. I stayed still and waited for her to speak once more.

"Why are you crying?" She asked softly. Her eyes filled with concern. Her hand slowly reaches out for my face but I immediately took a step back. Her eyes filled with concern "I'm not afraid of you. I want to be your friend." Her sweet voice distracted me as her hand eventually rested on my cheek. Her little hand was soft and warm, her fingers delicately wiping the tears away from my eyes. I slowly closed my eyes and let her run her little fingers through my fur.

"Did you lose something too?" My eyes opened from the sudden question. I looked at her as she kept stroking my fur.

Yes little one. I did.

But how does she know? Is she a wolf too? Did she lose her family too? That made me realise, why is she alone in the middle of the woods? I have so many questions.

What did she lose?

She sighed in disappointment for not getting a reply. "That's okay. I won't give up searching for what's mine. So you shouldn't give up searching for what's yours too." She removes her hand away from my cheeks and gave me something that changed my life forever.

She gave me a warm, innocent smile.

A smile that tells me everything is going to be alright.

A smile that I will do anything to see it again and again. It's like she have become a special person in my heart.

My eyes widened, realising what just happened after that second.

---

"Father, what is imprinting?" I asked curiously, my friends kept talking about it and It made me want to know more about it. my father chuckled and responded.

"Imprinting on someone is when you see her, everything changes. All of a sudden, its not gravity holding you to the planet. It's her. Nothing else matters." My father paused and turn to look at my mother who was smiling the entire time. My father smiled back and kissed my mother on the cheek and let her continue instead.

"You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that's a protector, or a lover, or a friend."

"One day when you finally become an adult you'll understand, my little one." My father finally finishes as I smiled and nodded.

I will understand that someday. Someday I will find that someone.

Someone so precious that I will do anything to protect.

Someone I could give my all to.

Someone to call them mine.

I was lost in my thoughts until my parents pulled me into a warm hug. I never want this moment to end.

Somehow it felt special to me.

It'll be a memory I'll never forget.

---

I've just imprinted on her...

She's...

Mine.

I came back to reality and found out she was gone. My heart started beating fast, afraid that I might lose her. I can't lose her.

I started sniffing, trying to track down her scent. She has a sweet scent, it's not strong but subtle. She smells like a flower.

After a while, I finally found her running from afar.

Is she running away from me?

Did I scare her?

I paced towards her but then suddenly another voice caused me to stop halfway.

"Ellie! Ellie!"

"I'm coming mommy!" I watched the little girl ran to her direction as I quietly followed her from behind.

I hid behind the bushes and peaked.

"Mommy! Mommy!" The little girl ran towards a young woman as the woman knelt down and hugged the little girl tightly. I'm assuming it's the little girl's mother.

"Your dad and I are worried! Where were you?" Her mother exclaims as she checks for any injuries.

"I lost my paper crane that you made for me, mommy." The little girl looks down feeling disappointed. The mother smiled and lift the little's girls chin up.

She lost her paper crane?

"I can always make another one." Her mother kissed her forehead with her hand caressing her cheek gently. "I can make a thousand more." Her mother whispered softly, her fingers stroking the little girl's lips until it forms a beautiful smile.

"Come little one, let's look for daddy." The mother tells the little girl but she stopped her and began to tug the mother's hand.

"Wait mommy, I made a friend while I was looking for my paper crane. He lost something too." The little girl said, sounding worried.

Suddenly, wolves started howling from afar. The mother got alerted with fear written all over her face.

"What's wrong, mommy?" The little girl asked as her mother immediately lifted her up.

"We have to go," Her mother demanded as she began to run away with the little girl in her arms.

"Mommy what about my friend..." The little girls voice echoed through before they disappeared into the woods, her eyes kept looking back. My eyes never left hers.

She's gone

I growled and howled back as a distraction to the other wolves. With no hesitation I paced into a different direction. I heard wolves running towards my direction as I kept howling.

While I was running as fast as I can, something on the ground caught my eye when I ran past it.

Then it hit me.

Without thinking twice, I quickly turned back before it was too late.

---

"Ellie." I whispered. Reading her name written on the white paper crane. It seemed like it was handwritten by her. My fingers went tracing around her name as her scent lingers once again.

Her name sounds beautiful.

Wherever she will be, I will always be there for her.

I will protect her.

From now on, she will be the only person that matters. I will not let anything bad happen to her. Whoever dares to touch what's mine will die.

Those filthy wolves.

This is just the beginning.

One by one I will let them pay for what they have done.

I will have my revenge.
