The terrible brute force turned into a real meteorite, and at this moment, Chris didn't hold back in the slightest.
But maybe Bane saw through Chris, or perhaps Chris anticipated Bane's anticipation. On the way down, the Kitten encountered her enemy.

A blood-basin mouth burst forth from the earth. It was a bizarre life form with only a head and arms. Atop the massive head were terrifying teeth and no other organs. It opened its mouth wide as a building, attempting to devour everything around it.

Even Lu Ping'an, who maintained a safe distance, felt a strange attraction, pulling him toward that gaping maw.
He found it somewhat difficult to defend against; it seemed to be some conceptual-level "Devouring."
