Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The Pawn_Athan Ayo.

Mikel's tavern was just a short drive away from Brook street where Jenny resided. She had been there with Jimmy on several occasions. It was their favourite relaxation spot each time they needed to have crazy fun away from home. Over the years, Jenny had fallen in love with the tavern that she had brought all her past four boyfriends along with her. Jimmy was the last she had brought along to the tavern for the past four months that they had dated each other. It's no surprise that the waiters were well conversant with her specifics and peculiar choices. And whenever she arrived, she needed no introduction, as the services were rendered her almost automatically.

Mikel, the tavern owner, was a great friend of hers, and he knew all her past conquests. But, at the moment, she preferred to cut an isolated figure, as she had waved off all offers from the waiters. She needed to clear her head. She longed to get rid of that corpse in her room as fast as she could in case the cops came searching around. She hung her head over the table, with her hands sustaining her jaw.

''What's up, Jenny? You've not taken your usual. We've got your favourite on the menu: Buffalo Chicken Paninis, salmon chopped salad, Mumford Burgers...,'' said Mikel, tossing the menu list on the table before Jenny.

Examining Jenny's red eyes more closely, he got more inquisitive, ''Babe, have you been sick lately? Your face looks like you need some rest now.''

Jenny stayed mute, maintaining a calm composure. '

''What's up with Jimmy though? You've broken up?'' Mikel asked. ''Dude was here Saturday night though,'' Mikel continued, adjusting the seat to make way for his pot belly before he could settle in.

Seeing that he was gradually winning her attention at the mention of Jimmy, Mikel continued, tossing his head sideward in demand for affirmation.

''That fella threw a dagger in your heart again? He was here with some chick two nights ago.'' Mikel confirmed..

In this moment, Jenny gathered sudden interest in Mikel's nosy talk, ''with whom? What did she look like?'' She inquired impatiently. Jenny's face stiffened and grew more demanding of answers.

Mikel's eyes were stretched to the full, tilting his back a bit more sideways to examine Jenny's impatience. Something must be wrong between the two lovebirds he had known for this past four months, he thought. He made it his responsibility to further reveal the gory details to Jenny as she had been a longtime, loyal client of his. ''Easy, babe. Easy. Jim came around with a chick last two nights, and they had mad fun on the dance floor,'' he said, pointing towards the dance floor.

''What time was it, Mickey, and who was this lady?'' Jenny queried impatiently.

''They came on in at around 9p.m. She was a teen around 17, blonde, fair, and stocky. She's got some huge backside too,'' Mikel confirmed.

Hearing the mention of 9p.m., Jenny recalled that Jimmy had ditched her in the course of sex at 8:20p.m. on Saturday night. So, Jim was two-timing. Jim was a cheat. Jim was the evil. He probably caused his own death, she concluded. Had she known, she wouldn't have allowed him back in her space. But now, she was lumped in the whole mess. She had to clear herself of this mess as fast as she could.

''Mikey, you've got any idea about the girl's name?' Jenny queried.

''Ehm..if my memory serves me right, he called her by the name...ehm...Laura! Yes, Laura! They seemed to have a short argument, and he called her by that name to ease her up.'' Mikey further disclosed.

Jenny leaned back on her seat, apparently examining how this linked to Jimmy's death. She would need to be on the tail of this Laura. She would need to find her, and discover more clues. She's the only clue she had now. But what if Laura was the culprit who snuck into her apartment and stabbed Jim to death? What if? But first off, she would need to change the lock to her room as it longer felt safe. Laura might even sneak in and stab her too. She continued to weight her options in silent warring thought.

''Is everything all right, Jenny?'' Mickey queried, concerned.

''No, it's fine,'' Jenny assured him.

''You know, that dude, Jim, isn't the kind of fella for you,'' he said, taking a moment to observe Jenny's reaction. ''He may have have broken up with you, but I'm pretty damn sure he can't break you,'' he continued, fixing his gaze at Jenny's beautiful thick lips and pointed nose.

For a moment, Jenny felt secure that, at least, someone was sure he had broken up with Jimmy.

''You're the most beautiful thing, babe. You're bigger than that!'' Mickey asserted, feeling victorious seeing Jenny pursed her lips and drew a wide smile.

It was way past 11p.m when Jenny left Mikel's tavern. She had had a long, robust conversation with Mickey, and she felt some signs of relief coming through. I would get over this, she had assured herself.

The complex was dead quiet at this moment. It was her best chance to drag Jimmy's body into her trunk and dispose of the body in the sea which was located downtown. She hadn't parked her car in the garage this time; she had parked close to the entrance of the condo, for ease.

She looked around the premises and there was no single soul active. She paced from her room to Benji's door (as he was the closest neighbour now), and she was cocksure the door was locked. It's all set then. She was clear to drag the corpse to her trunk. It's just two flights of stairs she needed to overcome now.

Jenny rolled out the body, which she had wrapped and fastened with a duvet, from under the bed. It felt heavier than before. She managed to drag the body out to her stairs. At first, dragging the body made a mild scratchy noise on her base, but the noise subsided as soon as she dragged the heavy burden across the descending stairs that linked to Benji's crib. It only made a zig-zag movement across the steps. Landing on Benji's base, she made an ultra-careful effort to avoid the scratchy noise that had earlier interrupted her stealth. This time, She flipped the corpse, rather than dragged it. Now, the body slipped into the stairs. She was close to success; she was relieved. As she made to drag the corpse across the stairs, a little creak sprang from Benji's door. Jenny froze still and braced herself against the wall. She was engulfed in sweat, hoping fervently that it's no one. Out of Benji's door, a little rat scampered across to the upper stairs. Then a moment of silence ensued, and she felt some relief again. It's just a rat, she concluded.

She had moved the corpse off Benji's vicinity now, and she only needed to overcome one more flight of stairs, which would not be an issue. Success was in sight now, as much as Benji's door creaked wildly again. She froze again. This time, she was cocksure someone had come out of that room. ''Jenny, what are you up to?'' Benji asked, scurrying down the stairs. ''I could help you with that,'' he continued, pointing at the mystery load.

''Never mind, Benji,' Jenny retorted, tensed.

Benji insisted on assisting with the mystery load. He had probably thought it's one of her baggage. The moment he drew closer, he was taken aback by the amount of stench that emanated from the load. In this moment, Jenny had given up all hope. Benji will find out, she thought. Curious, Benji relaxed one of the ropes and discovered a part of Jimmy's lifeless body.

''Ah, you're a murderer!'' Benji snapped in hushed volume '''The cops must know about this,'' he threatened.

''I didn't murder him. I can explain this to you,' Jenny pleaded defiantly, even as Benji already pulled out his phone and took snapshots of Jenny standing by the corpse.

''See? I've got evidence. Folks like you deserve to rot in jail,'' he snarled.

Tensed and short of ideas, Jenny pleaded with Benji, but he would have none of that. Unleashing her seduction, Jenny drew closer to this short, stout man, swung her arms around his neck, and forced a kiss from him. Benji stood still, surprised at what just happened, he said, ''you know, I've been wanting to fu**k you long before now.''

''Bring it on then, you coward,'' Jenny asserted, sliding her fingers across the outline of Benji's dick.

The duo had some nookie on the spot, as Jenny unleashed all her seduction on Benji in a bid to shush him about this incident. But would Benji stay mute about this? Would he not take advantage of this to blackmail her from this moment on? Perhaps, she would think of running away. No, Benji had some evidence now; he might present it to the cops, and she would be declared wanted. Questions upon questions popped up in her mind as she later drove downtown to dispose of Jimmy's body.
