Jess cleared her throat and waited for the comments to die down.
"I found I had this ability while practicing my powers. My thought is to use it to sneak past their guards and take down as many of the top fighters as possible. I KNOW I can do this. I will send a signal when it is safe to come into the battle. They'll move to hide the children, that I'll see to. No innocent blood will be shed. Mark won't send an alpha command to fight, but Kelly may urge them to protect their Luna. She will need to be dosed quickly. It is my job to do that. She can't see me coming so I stand a decent chance of getting to her. I need someone present in the pack lands to handle Hanny. I trust the Moon Goddess's choice of who else to bring and so I will ask Ivy to accompany me. They have magicks of their own, dark and nasty ones. We will need to be careful. I presume Ivy can do what I can. She can hide herself. This is our best path. Before the sun rises I'll slip past them. Wait for my signal."
"I still don't like this, I am scared you'll be hurt." James grumbled.
"You know I can hold my own. Besides, she can't strike what she can't see. I fully intend to dodge and duck her. Only once I am sure I have her contained will I face her. If that makes me a coward so be it. But I have seen a bit of what she's capable of and I really don't want to underestimate her. I am not scared, I just know I can do this for some reason, I can see a clear path and how to do and when to laid out for me. Like guiding me almost. It is my duty to take her down, I think I have always known it."
Amelia piped up then and said she had a few bones to pick with their former beta and she knew James wanted Heath. They would let whichever of them had the shot take down Hanny. She would be one to fight. She'd been top female warrior once, so naturally she would be skilled. Plus whatever dark magic she'd sold her soul for would no doubt be strong, they may need help from the witches for her. Nonetheless, she intended to leave none of those guilty in that pack left standing. Least of all her "father" and her former "mate" they would be hers to destroy. She'd make her former mate feel twice the pain she had felt that night. He'd scream for mercy and beg for death when she was done.
The sun was due to come up in an hour and everyone gathered at the field before the woods to draw orders from their alphas. James was surprised to find a few faces he hadn't counted on, amongst the men and few women. Least of all their neighboring coven of vampires.
Silvan walked up to James and greeted him with a head nod and a smile.
"It's a surprise to see you here Silvan." He said to him
Silvan, a man of about 30 with long blue/silver dyed hair and piercing amber eyes smiled revealing perfectly normal looking teeth. He looked good for a man of his age. James knew him to be nearly 400 years old. His pack had much respect for his coven as they did for the wolves who lived next to them and worked with them amongst the human world.
Silvan's coven didn't hunt humans. They didn't hurt them for the blood they desperately needed for their survival. Instead, Silvan's family operated one of the largest blood banks in the United States. They got their blood from it. They also sent it along to help other vampire covens as well as passing on the much-needed supplies to hospitals.
He had explained it to James once. It wasn't a death. Yes, they were nearly immortal, but they did age. Slowly. The best estimate was anywhere from a decade or two to each human year. It depended what they did. Sun exposure, the blood of drunks and drug addicts, blood of sick people, it could all cause them to age quicker. Blood had to be carefully tested to be sure there was nothing that could harm them in it. They had to walk a balance of just enough blood and just enough food to maintain their bodies. They became as they were, not by the way Hollywood made them appear to be, but by the moon goddess herself. Celeste created her children with abilities to heal quickly, withstand almost any injury, be incredibly alluring and beautiful to entice, and to be very passionate people. But over a thousand years ago, a few wayward vampires decided to use their abilities to harm humans and otherkin to make them submit to them as if they were Gods. For this, Celeste punished them to what they are now. Most of the vampires turned on the wicked ones and wiped out their covens. Now they kept a low profile and usually stayed out of wars and trouble. That's why it was such a shock to see him there amongst the ranks waiting to tear down the menace pack that had been corrupt for far too long.
Silvan took Jessa's hands and kissed them. He bowed slightly and greeted her as Luna. He looked back up and with a rueful smile and a quick wink, he turned to James. Before James could react Silvan tackled him, and with a whoop of laughter Drayven jumped into the pile and the three began wrestling like children laughing and cussing while jostling to top the others.
Jessa stood looking at the three with a look of absolute shock and amusement. These three grown, tough looking men were wrestling like a bunch of teenaged boys in the yard. Suddenly she was grabbed up by Silvan and in a wink she was on a tree branch 40 feet above the ground. Jessa nearly fainted but Silvan kept a tight grip on her and kept smiling like a cat with an entire bowl of cream. He laughed and looked down to James.
"Looks like I won this round. I captured the beauty from the beast. What now Beasty?" he teased and Jessa caught on to the game. She smiled.
"My hero!" she said in an adoring tone ignoring the growl coming from below. "How can I ever repay you for your bravery?"
"Fear not fair maiden, it was my pleasure!" he said with a dramatic sweeping bow
"But there's one missing factor kind sir," she all but purred out. Her voice low and seductive, her big blue green eyes went doe and innocent.
"And that would be?"
"I'm the beast here." She said using her ability to disappear and grabbed Silvan throwing them from the tree and then gently floating down in the last 10 feet.
Silvan clapped in excitement and whooped out in joy. "What a Luna you've found yourself James! You didn't tell me she was Fae!"
Jessa stood confused. "Fae? Me? I don't think…" she trailed off thinking on it. She'd read about the fairies. They were nearly extinct with very few covens living in a remote mountain area. They interacted with few select species and tended to avoid over populated areas of humans.
There was no way she could be fae, could she? True, there was a lot she had no idea about and no way to know. She didn't know her birth parents. She had powers that other wolves didn't, and true some of the tools for the witches didn't work for her. She just chalked it up to her inexperience and newness. But what if, what if they weren't MEANT to work for her?
No, it was ridiculous. Fae were so few and so closed off wherever they hid it would be improbable. She was merely a witch and wolf. She was blessed and kissed by the Mood Goddess and that was more than special enough for any wolf, let alone a hybrid.
