She stood up and started moving around the room to comfort herself and also calm down. "This can't be; I still have a lot to do, Amber" The tears flowed freely down her pretty face. Amber could understand Malia's frustration because even after being with Daniel for so long, she wasn't ready to have a child yet.
Without saying anything, Amber pulled Malia for a hug and held her in her arms. It's the only thing she could do.
Amber believed that the Alpha was the perfect person for Malia, and he wouldn't do anything to hurt her. "I understand, Malia, and all I can say is that it has already happened, and it might not have been something you planned for, but a child is a precious gift."
"I understand that, but why was I never precious to my parents? I was trash that came in unwelcomed. You should have seen how my own father used to look at me" Remembering all those moments years ago that had scarred her heart till now, Malia broke down completely. She had never thought of having the capability to nurse a child, let alone carry one. What kind of parent would she be?
"I know that I don't know so much about your past, but I can only say that if you were my daughter, I would have loved you with every single cell in my body. You are beautiful, and your heart is the purest I have seen in all my life. It's their loss for not loving you."
Amber tried to comfort Malia, and even though her words sounded so cliche, she had meant every one of them. Malia had taken such a special position in her life; she had never been happier. She was more of a sister than a friend. Being a werewolf, soul mates were said to be those that the moon goddess chooses, all in the form of lovers or mates. But, aside from Daniel, she would confess that her other bond was Malia. She loved the girl like they were real sisters.
"Malia listened to the words Amber had said, and she didn't know that they could make her feel special in so many different ways. For someone who had lacked simple affection that was supposed to come naturally from parents, Malia always felt so unwanted, and it was always like a brick weighing down on her heart. Was it that hard to love her? She always questioned herself endlessly.
Alex could feel all the emotional rollercoaster that Malia was going through, and it made him really sad. Did she hate the idea of bearing a child for him, or was it something else? He started to wish she were a wolf too; at least the pull would be instant, but he liked her all the same.
"I know that you hard the part of the pregnancy, but it's not all about you" Daniel had seen him moving out of the house through the back door, mainly because he didn't want to listen anymore.
"Do you think she will reject me when she realizes that I am the man that got her pregnant? Do you think her perception of me will go down the drain?"
Daniel had never seen his Alpha this vulnerable. He didn't know what to say to make him feel better since he didn't know so much about Malia. Daniel had listened to most of the girls' conversation and wanted to comfort Alex, saying that the babies were not the real issue. But, as some may say, it wasn't really his place to tell him about such things.
'The doctor is here,' came Amber's voice through the mind link. It startled Daniel quite a bit because they rarely used mind links due to all the noise around them and the fact that he traveled quite a lot. So, the distance affected the link as a form of communication.
"The doctor is here, Alpha. Let's wait for him to explain things to her, and then you could talk with her separately. She may be ready then" Daniel was hopeful about Malia. Yes, he didn't know her, but he was a good judge of character.
The two friends walked back inside. Alex, who was calmer and a little more opened up, went all closed up again. He thought that it was the best mechanism for him. It would hurt, but he wouldn't bear to let all see it. But who was he lying to? His heart was broken, and the wolf in him was scoffing at the coward that he was.
When they got back to the living room. Doctor Henry stood up and bowed as a sign of respect. "Good evening, Mr. Ford" Alex came forward, shook his hands, and welcomed him. He was nervous, but there was nothing that he could do but try as much as possible to mask it.
Because he needed privacy with their matters, Alex asked Malia to follow him to the study room, and doctor Henry followed. Alex believed that Amber and Daniel knew quite a bit even without him telling them and could conclusively conclude that by the conversation that he had with Daniel outside. He wanted some privacy so that Malia could open up easily.
Despite Amber being her friend, she needed to learn that he was willing to be there emotionally too. Of course, it was far-fetched because Malia didn't know much about him, but it wouldn't hurt to try.
In the study, he pulled her so they could sit together and doctor Henry could sit on the other side. Malia didn't know why everything felt so natural with Mr. Ford; even the sparks she felt were new to her.
Back to the point in the room, she wondered why the doctor was with her; yes, that could be discussed because she was pregnant, but why was Mr. Ford the one with her and not her best friend. Why was she in his home? All these questions were begging her, but she was pretty patient. She had learned that over the years. She wouldn't have survived with her aunt and uncle if she wasn't. Knowing that Amber was on the other side of the door made her feel better, although she didn't sense any negative energy from Mr. Ford or doctor Henry.
"I know that you might be really curious as to why you are here with the both of us," Alex started. "I will begin by saying that I am the father of the babies you are carrying and that I am pretty happy that you are the one having them with me.
"Is that why I woke up in your house" Malia, who was so still, found a way to ask the question. Now she gets it. Why would such a dignified man waste his time with her, someone who wasn't at his level?
"Partly yes but also no. So, doctor Henry is going to explain some things to you, and I only ask that you listen and also be patient, ok?" Alex tried to sound as soft as he could. But, it was more like he was begging.
