Chapter 1 - Waking Up

"This place looks very old. Maybe we can find something valuable here. I don't know, like a relic?" It was a man's voice. It was the first thing I heard after waking up.

Things weren't clear at the time, and my thoughts were confused after waking up after so long. Gradually things started to fall into place, and I deduced where I was.

The church was responsible for chasing all monsters, and I, being a vampire, was no different. I ran for many years and killed countless men who thought they could stop me. But, even the greatest of all vampires couldn't fight humanity alone. They couldn't kill me, but what I went through trapped inside that tomb was worse than death.

The pain, and the urge to consume blood, tormented me for many years. Unable to die from lack of blood, I just lay there, feeling my body mummify after each second.

I tried to move my body, but only my eyes could move. Moving that heavy stone door from my coffin was impossible with my weak body. My only hope was those humans who entered my tomb, and luckily for me, they seemed to be just as dumb as everyone else.

A small source of light appeared in the corner of the door. It was clear the humans were trying to open my coffin, so I closed my eyes in advance to make it look like I was a mere corpse.

"This shit is heavy, but I think I can open it with no problem," one of the humans said. I wish I could have seen his startled face as soon as he opened my coffin.

"Fuck. There's an ugly mummy in there," the man said.

"And what did you expect to find inside a coffin? A hot woman? Stop being stupid," the other said.

Watching humans fight over silly things was so funny. The same person who opened my coffin came closer and noticed the rusty sword I carried. Greed took over, as usual, and he decided to try to snatch it out of my hand.

"There's a rusty sword here with the mummy. The city museum will pay handsomely for it. Maybe this time we got lucky."

He tried to grab my sword, thinking that a rusty sword wouldn't be able to cut anything. What an idiot. That was a sword personally enchanted by me using vampire blood magic. And because of that, a wound opened in his palm when he tried to grab it.

"What the fuck. The sword cut me. How is that possible? This shit looks like an old tin can."

A few drops of blood fell directly into my mouth. They weren't enough to regain my strength, but they would keep my body moving for a few minutes. And a few minutes were enough to finish them off.

The injured man backed away, meeting up with two friends, a man, and a woman. Feeling the heartbeats of the three, I saw that the woman was the most nervous. She was the smartest among the three, and she noticed that something didn't seem right.

But since one of them was injured, they all focused their attention on quickly treating that wound.

That was perfect for me. Using what little strength I regained, I leaped directly towards the roof, clinging to it with my claws. I looked at the three of them, and they did not notice my moves.

"You know what? Let me get that sword. You get hurt too easily, you weakling."

The other man, who was with him, decided to try his luck taking the sword. And when he looked into the coffin, he didn't see any mummy that his friend had made a fuss about, and only an old sword was inside.

"Is this for real? Did you make up stories about scary mummies? There's nothing in here, just an old sword. Look," the man took the sword out, showing it to his friends.

"What? How is that possible? I saw a mummy in there," the other said.

The injured man ran towards the coffin, and when he looked inside, he didn't see me lying there. While that happened, the woman seemed to sense that something was off, and she backed away a little further.

I jumped off the roof, going straight to the neck of the man who got my sword. My teeth grew and easily pierced that man's fragile neck. Blood spurted everywhere, and I almost drained him entirely in seconds. There were more urgent things to do, like kill the others. So I left his body agonizing in pain and rushed against the other man.

"V-AAA-MMP!" My hand slapped his head before he could finish the sentence, beheading him. It was a gross scene, and the woman who watched everyone unfold by the sides screamed in fear.

The world was still unknown to me. Many years passed since my lockdown, and things were not the same as I used to know. Vampires had mind powers, so I used that to extract information from her. All sorts of images entered my mind, and it was tough to separate what was beneficial for me and what was not. It took me a few minutes to finish, and when it did, I was surprised.

Humans now had electricity, cars, guns, and the internet. I saw everything from her perspective, so I was sure that seeing it myself would be more shocking. I also saw how her life had been sad, and the Ardmont Hunter Academy was the only thing left for her. With that, I could no longer kill her.

My mind powers could do more than extract information. I used them to erase Scarlet's memory of everything that happened. She would no longer remember entering that tomb and only think that her friends went missing. It was a good thing for her. I saw how they mistreated her when I entered inside her mind. She was better off without them.

Two corpses. I drained all of the blood I could, regaining my strength. It was not the strength I had before the church locked me. It seemed that the spell they used also drained my power for good. That meant that I needed to raise my rank as a vampire from scratch. I did it before. I would do it again without problems.

The major problem I had on my hands was not how to hide the bodies but how to survive inside Ardmont Hunter Academy. It was a place that trained humans to become hunters. Hunters were people capable of using magic to reinforce their bodies, making themselves equal to the body of monsters. They knew how to fight barehand and with weapons.

I knew that the trainees would not discover me as their tracking skills were lacking, but whoever taught them would notice that I was a vampire. It was a good thing I was not an ordinary vampire but a primordial. My powers were above most vampires, and these humans would only see what I wanted them to see.

Even though they would not uncover my identity as a vampire, they could still notice that I was not a student. Based on what I saw inside Scarlet's mind, the academy had many students. That would mask my identity for some time, but eventually, they would discover that I was not a student but someone that appeared out of thin air. I had to think of a permanent disguise, but it was a thing to think about later.

I grabbed the two drained corpses and hid them inside my coffin, closing it. I made sure to change my clothes with one of them, looking more like a student.

Scarlet was still in a daze after I wiped her memory, so I made her go back to her room and followed close behind. The tomb was not relatively small, and we left it in a few minutes.

They found my tomb when exploring the woods inside the academy courtyard. We left it using a secret passage. I let Scarlet go back to her room and do the things she had to. The woods were silent, as most students did not venture into that place. Using my tomb as a secret place was not a bad idea. Maybe turning some of the students into vampires and slowly taking control of everything was a good start.

A new clan of vampires was not a bad idea. From what Scarlet knew, vampires are hunted every single day, and their numbers are fewer than ever. I did not know who was in charge of the vampires in the 21st century, but maybe I had to be the one restoring our glory.

My first step was to blend in and make everyone see me as an Ardmont student. Becoming friends with Scarlet seemed like a good idea. Maybe one day Scarlet could become the first vampire of my new clan.

Setting all these thoughts aside, I left the Ardmont Hunter Academy woods going straight to the main building to attend class.
