"What?" Gordon asked instinctively. Duncan slipped the note into Gordon's hand and he quickly read it. "What? He gave you this?" Gordon's expression was too loud. Duncan, irritated by Gordon's reaction, pushed him into some random room and closed the door.
"Are you an idiot? Why do you think I handed over that note to you quietly?" Duncan yelled at Gordon. "Hey! Don't yell at me. Till when do you think you can do this dirty work for him, huh?" Gordon asked Duncan. He was still fuming with anger and sat down on the nearby couch.
"Who is doing whose dirty work?" Another voice came in and questioned them. They both stood on guard with their hands on the sword to attack and turned around.
The guy raised his hand above his head. "You two do know that you are in my office, right?" The man asked. "Uh it's just you Oscar." Gordon collapsed and sat down on the couch. Duncan straightened his white suit and dusted the cufflets."Oh! Today was the day?" Oscar got up from his chair and walked towards Duncan.
"Congratulations on getting married. But where is the lady?" Oscar casually asked. Duncan sighed and said - "What is with everyone today? Since she is not here, that means I didn't want to bring her here. Isn't the message clear?" He said in an irritated tone.
"My goodness. You sure are like any ordinary man. Just that men get irritated by their wives after one or two months of marriage, but you got irritated immediately. "Oscar made a trashy joke and both he and Gordon laughed. "That is indeed true, Sir Oscar," Gordon said, laughing at Duncan. They were both a perfect combination, to tick off someone.
Duncan took a deep breath and sat down patiently. Through his action, both Gordon and Oscar understood what was expected from them.
So, like any good subjects of the empire, they straightened their uniforms and sat straight in front of their king.
"Duncan expects me to kill the guards that rode the carriage with me to the Central palace," Duncan said.
"But you are Duncan." Oscar made an innocent comment and Duncan gave him an obviously irritated expression with his one brow up.
"Oh! You mean Desmond." Oscar mumbled. "It's going to take a long time to go back to how things were." He said and brushed off the topic.
"Anyways, so come back - now it is your responsibility, Oscar, to kill them all by tonight." Duncan gave his orders.
"You can have the list from Gordon since there were some of his knights as well," Duncan said, and scribbled something behind that very same note.
Oscar and Gordon both squinted their eyes to see what was written. It read - "Erase." Both of them nodded their heads and just decided to go with the flow. "We'll get it done, your majesty."Oscar responded as he straightened his gloves.
Gordon nodded too, assuring Duncan with his eyes.
"Great. So now I'll be heading back." Duncan got up and started walking towards the door. But he suddenly stopped and turned behind. They were still in the very same position. "Today's night is the night. I'll go there myself." Duncan said in a soft voice.
Then he opened the door and left the room.
"Oh my goodness, what is up with his brother?" Oscar got up and walked to his chair behind the desk.
"As if I would know," Gordon said. "But one thing is clear. He stepped out in daylight today. His power is increasing." Gordon was extremely serious with his words. " like the storm is just like the doorstep. But maybe we are not ready," Gordon warned. His blue eyes looking straight at the clock behind Oscar's working desk.
There was a silence for a few minutes in the room. "Oh my god. Those words almost gave me goosebumps, Gordon," Oscar said.
"I hope that he isn't just faking it. I hope he is truly prepared," Gordon said. Oscar nodded and said - "The main pawn has already arrived. So let's see how this game will take a turn."
The rain was enough to fill in the silence that took over the room after their conversation.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Palace,
"That damned king. He sure has a lot of attitude." Regina was thinking as she strided into the Eastern palace.
It looked like a place that was well maintained. There were golden chandeliers hanging from the tall ceilings and golden pillars that made the palace even more gigantic.
Although the sound of the rain echoed through the pillars and filled up the entire place, she felt that she wasn't alone there.
"Good evening, your majesty." A voice called from behind her.
She swiftly turned around and saw people lined up to greet her. "I apologize to your majesty for being late. But the preparations are done and you can directly accompany us to the Grand Queen Chamber on the third floor." The woman explained.
"Hmm?" Regina just observed all of the servants lined up there.
They were being instructed by the woman who seemed to incharge of all of them. She wasn't that old or an experienced employee, and Regina was smart enough to pick on that fact.
As a matter of fact, the royal family was giving out such obvious clues single handedly showing their control over the authority of Rachel, by putting a young woman to keep a watch on her, intrested Regina.
"This woman is literally very smart. She doesn't seem that much of an old woman and yet she seems to have risen in the ranks." Regina made an assumption, a vague one rather. But she knew something intresting was in the store.
She looked at the woman and gave her a smile. "Then I will be in your care. Please assist me throughout my stay here," Regina said with a big warm smile.
"Oh! Then I am ready to serve you for an eternity." The lady responded. She thought that Regina would get scared of her since she wanted to come off as intimidating to the so-called daughter of the D'Azure family.
But she was mistaken. Because it wasn't Rachel in front of them and the person who stood there was Regina.
