Chapter 4 - preparing

It took us of roughly 50 minutes to arrive inside the wandering wood.

Surely, my backbones were at their limits after carrying those supplies for almost an hour. the three of us had no other choice but to lay down on the ground to rest.

To be honest, we arrived 30 minutes ago, but the knight who escorted us here denied our claim. Therefore, were forced to follow his order for the time being.

"I will now take my leave" he turned his way around and started going back without saying anything.

At first glance, I thought he was trying to deceive us by luring us to a designated place before assassinating us.

However, given the fact that he left without doing anything and the spy boxes on top of us are still following all the way to our location, that means everything was all planned by our parents. I don't know the specific reason for that, but one thing is for sure, we are being forced to do things we usually don't for those old dudes' pleasure.

It has been 10 minutes ever since our escort left and the three of us are still laying on the ground helpless.

To catch our breath, we had to rest without talking to each other.

Another five minutes had passed and the first one to talk was me.

"Hey, we have to leave this area to find a suitable place for our survival. If we stayed here any longer, there is no guarantee for us to survive if the monsters around are going to attack us off guard."

That brought them back to reality, no matter how tired they are, they can't possibly just stay here without doing anything. Especially when the possibility of monsters lurking around is a hundred percent higher than finding the person who asked.

Besides, these two have the most tendency to survive and win this test conducted by our parents. There is no way they are going to give up just because they got tired of walking for 50 minutes.

They took their supplies and went ahead without telling me. I followed from behind shortly.

After 10 minutes of tirelessly finding a decent place to stay, we decided to camp next to the waterfalls.

It was the best place for camping if you ask me. Not only do we have the best spot to live, but we can also drink the water. furthermore, fishing here isn't that bad, we can see some decent sizes of fish swimming underneath the water. This means, our food supplies are secured, and we don't have to worry about running out of food for five days.

We quickly established our tent and laid some traps around just in case.

Another 30 minutes had passed and everything went according to our plan.

Since we had finished doing our crucial work, we decided to rest inside the tent.

We woke up later in the middle of the night. The Coldness and bleakness were no joke. Since we have blankets to put on, the cold wasn't the one giving us difficulty, rather, the darkness that blanketed the entire forest. The moon was covered by clouds making it ineffective in this situation.

We are not afraid of the dark nor the thing that lives with it, we are just in a tough situation where we have the lowest chance of evading a surprise attack.

Since we couldn't make any other actions in this situation, we decided to stay vigilant and silent until the sun rises.

But, things are getting harder.

At that time, Harley urge us to create a campfire, however, the two of us promptly rejected his idea. It might sound easy but the process is literally nearly impossible. Not to mention, we have to find firewood inside this darkness. The odds of fighting a monster are nearly 100 percent. Therefore, the one and only option available right now is to wait until the morning. Albeit in the morning, monsters are roaming. Anyhow, the chance of us surviving in the morning is higher than in our current circumstances.

Inside the tent, the three of us are resting, at the same time, observing the area from the inside. Since the two are on guard, I decided to sleep for a few more hours. If something happened these two are just gonna wake me up.

"Hey, are you seriously gonna sleep right now?" Harley said in a low voice.

"Yeah. I don't find any problem with it since you two are guarding. I think it's more than enough."

"So, you are making us your knight now huh?"

"If that's what you think about it, then be it"

I promptly ended the conversation without letting him speak again.

Talking any further will only cause trouble. Therefore, he also decided not to speak and was left murmuring in the corner.

The place became quiet again. However in the next moment...

Boom...

"!..."

The sound of an explosion that reverberated inside the forest caused us to be on high alert.

"What was that?" Said Harley in a panicked voice.

Certainly, we don't need to tell who did that. In this forest, in our area, with no people other than us, it's obvious where the explosion came from.

After all, Each group was dispatched separated from the other. Thus, this commotion was likely created by monsters.

We hurriedly took our weapons and went outside to check the area.

Boom...

Another explosion arose. It wasn't that hard to find the location of the explosion as we could see nothing but the light induced by the explosion.

The direction of the explosion originated not too far behind our tent.

I started reckoning and soon I found out that the explosion started from our previous location where we got separated from the knight.

"Should- should we go there to investigate?" Said Harley with a slight panic in his voice.

I want to make sure so I question him.

"Are you scared?"

Even Lucas glanced at him after I said that.

"O-of course not."

Feeling the gaze of his brother, Harley promptly denied my statement.

He denied it but I'm pretty sure he is just doing it to avoid humiliation.

Anyway, that explosion will definitely attract monsters proximately.

We have to avoid going there at all costs.

"I don't thin-"

"Let's go there and investigate what happened," Lucas said with a serious expression.

'Hey, hey, you can't be serious right? What are you trying to achieve by going there? Plus, we lack manpower in case something went wrong.' I said that to myself.

Even if I did warn him, I knew his attitude to reject other people's proposals, especially when he doesn't think of that person equally.

For that reason, telling him my opinion would be meaningless.

Harley who always accepts his brother's suggestions, goes along with him as he nodded as a response.

"What about you" Lucas stared at me.

This might be beneficial. However, as for me, I declined his suggestion.

"Sorry. You two can go there on your own."

No matter how much you persuade me, I won't go along with your stupid decision.

The reason for me calling it a stupid decision is because they think they get praised by their grandfather for doing this bravery. After all, these two decided of wanting to become like that man for the rest of their lives. If the reason was different I might've agreed with it.

"Eh, are you scared?" Harley, with a smirk, took this opportunity to get his revenge on me.

This also made Lucas look disappointed in me.

"I guess I was wrong about you." Leaving those words behind, Lucas started going in the direction of the explosion followed by his brother Harley.

I think I should be the one to say that. You look vigilant but stupid in making decisions. At this rate, you will only become a slave to your parents.

"I wonder what those people are thinking right now." I looked at the boxes which is constantly following the two. Shortly, the two disappeared from my sight along with the spy boxes.

"It should be fine now." I shifted my gaze to the other side of the waterfalls.

Behind the bush, three wolves but not at the same time were waiting to ambush me.

In this darkness, a normal person would be unable to see them. However, that doesn't apply to me. I already sensed them before I came out of the tent. My gamer instinct and clear eyes are really helpful in this situation.

The water wasn't that deep and me being alone, the chance of these monsters attacking me is high. No, they would definitely attack me.

I'd observed their body characteristics, As far as I know, in this world, people called these monsters a boarwolf.

[Boarwolf description]

A hybrid monster of both wolf and a boar.

These monsters are not that special of some kind, to people in this world, they're nothing but prey. However, this doesn't include the people just after receiving their system recently.

Without the system, it's hopeless for me to know their levels. I don't know how strong these boarwolfs are, nonetheless, I decided to mock it with my middle finger to test it out.

"Come on!" The middle finger was directed at the monsters.

As I executed the perfect ultimate middle finger, the three immediately revealed themselves from behind the bush.

'Would you look at these monsters, they're drooling.' I said it in my mind.

They seemed to be hungry right now, so why not try to eat me? That's what I'm trying to say. Well, that's only if you can win against me.

In the next moment, they rushed at me as if they were finally able to fulfill their hungry stomach. Thankfully the water was able to slow them down, and It was fair enough for me to know their levels without having any system to help me.

"These guys, are weak"

I grabbed the handle of my sword placed on my waist and waited for them until they arrived.

My stance was identical to those of samurai during the Edo period.

"Waki gamae was it?" I recalled the name of the stance.

{Correct me if I'm wrong. I only got this information from Google}

The first one to succeed in reaching my domain immediately jumped at me as though it was racing against it's own kind.

"They looked so big in mid-air" I muttered while unsheathing my katana.

[Technique deployment, Eternal Moonlight]

I swung my sword a hundred times in an instant to the point that, I wasn't able to stop swinging it without seeing the monster's body in tiny pieces with my own eyes.

When I stopped swinging my sword, I found my hand holding the handle of the sword inside the scabbard placed next to my waist. as if, I didn't move at all. Then, the monster in front of me which was cut into tiny pieces started to gradually dissociate from each other.

And As a result, none of its body parts ran into me or even graze my clothes. However, the blood was an exception for that as it sticks to several parts of my clothes as well as my face.

The two charging boarwolf behind it was put to a halt after seeing their kind turned into tiny pieces in a blink of an eye without them knowing what happened within that instant.
