Becky immediately dropped her phone, stood up and rushed toward the guest room. She didn't want to go to their room because she wasn't ready to face her lover just yet. She checked the wardrobe and got some fitted casual wears for herself, which she quickly wore and put on canvas and ran out of the house.
A certain someone saw her leaving the house in haste and that only soured his mood more. He wondered where she was headed.
Becky drove carefully down the road. Her mind was messed up! It wouldn't sound absurd or be an understatement to say, it was only her body sitting behind the wheel while her mind, was far away!
Some minutes later, she entered a compound and parked her car at the parking lot. She came down from the car only to see her best friend waiting for her at the front with a worried look on her face. A glance at her reminded Becky of her mother. Whenever she would come home from school feeling sick, when she was still in middle school. The way Anita looked was just the same way her mother always had on.
That brought a little smile to her face but, a pain in her heart made that disappear like it was never there in the first place. She missed her mother.
"Becky!" Anita rushed to Becky and held her hand while looking at her, curiously, "What's wrong with you? Are you well?" She knew her second question was silly as she wasn't blind and she knew her friend wasn't okay at a glance. But, she was extremely worried that she just spouted anything that came up in her mind.
"Tell me what happen to you, please!" She begged, "You look awful!"
Becky looked at her friend, "I think i will have to reject that transfer." She replied and looked away.
Anita was momentarily dumbfounded. Some moments ago, her friend was excited about the transfer but now, she looked depressed and emotional, while talking about it. Anita was smart and she knew this had to do with Cain. Truth be told, she had expected this from the onset. Your lover suddenly having to leave you someday was something no man would accept easily. It would be a nigtmare especially if the man is deeply in love.
She sighed and walked toward the front door with her friend. The duo opened the door and entered the house.
Anita house was too grand and big for one person, reason being that, she wasn't the only one living there before. She and Becky were living together before the couple decided to live together and Anita was left alone to live in the big house. The house was a beautiful one and any one would know it belonged to a rich missy at first glance. The two friends entered and Anita helped her friend to a seat where they both sat down right beside each other.
The maid bowed before dispersing and retiring her room, giving them the privacy they needed.
"So now, tell me why you want to reject the transfer when you were so happy about it in the morning?" She asked quietly and intentionally made her voice motherly to comfort her friend more.
Becky for the first time since they entered that house looked up at her friend, "I dont know why..." She muttered and a single tears escaped her eyes. She then forced herself to continue, "I don't know why Cain can't support me. It had been my dream to soar higher in this work so by the time i establish my own job, I will be able to manage it well and luckily for me, that is exactly what is happening now. Mr Lucian had given me a chance to prove to the world that i am capable even as a woman. He is giving me a chance to tell myself I'm capable and to test myself if really i am best enough to pursue my goal but Cain wants all that to go the drain." She looked into Anita's eyes, while crying, "He is so mad at me, Anita. And I don't want it! If I am to chose one between him and my job, then i would chose him over and over again without any regret or hesitation. So I'm rejecting the transfer!"
Anita could feel her friend's pain but still, she couldn't blame Cain either. Cain has every right to be angry because she too was angry when she first heard about it. Cain was more affected than her because, he was her boyfriend and they were used to living together.
"Becky..." She called to attract her friend's attention. It worked as Becky wiped out her tears and looked into her eyes.
"I won't advise you to reject the transfer. It has been our dream for so long. Although I've quitted, I don't want you to quit. I want you to fulfill our dreams and I'm sure Cain wants that too."
"Then why Is he so angry at me!" Becky asked as more tears fell from her eyes.
"Because it won't be easy for him to live without you, girlfriend. Cain loves you and to think about it. You two have been leaving together for a year already, how do you want him to cope without you? How do you want him to cope knowing that he might not see his fiancee for a year? It's not easy girlfriend and you know that! He will miss you so much." Anita explained with all seriousness and Becky nodded.
"If he truly cares then why is he so mad? Will he ever allow me to go now?" Becky asked Anita with her eyes still moist with tears.
"I don't need to tell you how much he loves and cares about you. Everyone is aware of that. I'm sure he will come to it, you just have to give him a push. Try to understand him and see things the way he do."
"How? How do I do that?" Becky asked.
"By talking to him and making him understand. He always understand you and I'm sure it won't be different this time. Just let him know what your goal is, let him know about our dream. Tell him what your ambitions are and plans. I am sure he will understand you quicker that way and help you were is needed. It won't be easy for him because, it might turn out to be a long distance relationship.
Every word of Anita sank into Becky. she felt grateful that she had a friend like Anita, who always stood by her every time. If not for Anita, she didn't know what would become of her! And it was funny how Anita was good at the counseling but, can't remain in any relationship.
"Are you sure it will work that way?" Becky asked, Anita.
"Sure! Trust me baby!" Anita reassured her with a lovely smile and hugged her tight.
Becky dropped her purse and revealed a genuine smile. Complementing her beauty despite the fact that she was pale and gave her friend a sweet hug, "Thank you, girlfriend!" She cried out, as she rested her head on her Anita's shoulder.
Becky drove back home and entered the house only to meet Cain pacing around the sitting room. The look in his eyes wasn't that of anger but anxiety and pain. He looked so handsome and she couldn't help admire his ever pose.
Becky stopped by the door and was staring at her lover. but unknown Cain that Becky was back home. He didn't realise she was back and was by the door, "Baby!" She called softly to attract his attention and it a success as Cain immediately turned his head, to her direction.
