King of Potions

In a large building, sound of rushing footsteps is heard. A teen age boy is rushing trough halls, trying to get somewhere.

He is in a grey jacket with hood, has black hair and pair of blue eyes

"Nobutoshi! Wake up, we missed the bells! We! Are! LATE!" he starts shouting to someone as he gets to the right door and knocking in panic "I understand how I could miss, but you!"

In few seconds mumbling male voice is heard and foot steps as the door opens, to reveal a boy of the same age standing. He has same built as Hideki, except he is a little taller, his eyes are closed a little which points out that he is still drowsy

Nobu yawns and answers "...W-what is it, again, Hideki?"

"We are late, TO IGNITION!" screams his his friend almost in anger which finally wakes Nobutoshi up

"Sh*t!" is heard as he closed the door and starts packing up

After few more minutes they are getting out of the big 3 stories tall building with sign "Madam Eve's Orphanage" and start running in a rush, towards their destination

Today is the greatest day for anyone who turned 16 in past 12 months, "The Ignition Day". On this day all young men and women are going trough the process of ignition. Trough that ritual, the soul of a person is given spark, that allows him or her to use magic. Ritual uses special altar, luckily, there is an altar like this in their town

As two friends are charging through the streets, there are plenty of people on their way and even some carets with horses also traveling along the roads, the sun's position indicates that time is getting close to noon, currently

"Let's take a short cut over that street" Hideki points his finger, indicating the way

"You sure about that? That is where those thugs where snooping around!" Nobutoshi asks with answer to him being few seconds of silence, meaning "Yes"

"We won't need to make a commotion, we just need get past them. Even if they will run for us, once we get to church they will not be allowed inside"

"That is, if we are not too late and are gonna be let inside ourselves..."

After a minute they turn around to the street to the street they were speaking of. This location itself looks exactly like any other in this town, only problem is said "thugs"

On the horizon in the end of the street they see 4 people, those scoundrels were standing on the sidewalk, some leaning against the walls of buildings. They are bit older then 16 and are not going to the Ignition today, apparently have nothing better to do then wasting space over here

As Hideki and Nobu approach them, they are being noticed by the Thugs

"It's those two!" In anger shouts one that takes role of their leader. He stands in the middle of the way and raises his fists wanting to punch crap out of the duet "You are gonna be sorry for what you did!"

The two groups don't have a strong connection with each other, but most of the times they meet it ended with either the punks getting beat in the fight, or Nobu and Hideki managing to run away before it gets out of hand

As Hideki approaches that guy, he is stroked by a predictable fist attack, which he easily dodges

"We don't have time for this!" He states while punching back into opponent's guts, using all of the inertia from the previous running

Meanwhile, Nobutoshi successfully slips between the other thugs, using the surprise from their boss shouting in pain and falling on the floor to his knees

"That went way better then we expected" notices Nobu while turning his head to see those Bandits forgetting about them and helping their boss as he is still on the floor

The church can be seen easily, it stands high surrounded in circle by other buildings, and is the only structure to have such intricate design

Hideki and Nobu are currently inside

This ritual can only be done in specific day of the year and only for few hours, but thankfully, they manage to arrive an hour and a half before it ends, so there was still time, even though now they needed to wait in a long line. They already waited for 40-something minutes and there is still more then 20 people before them, Hideki is before Nobu in line

"Okey, I know I asked that question before, but we are almost there and I wanna see if your answer where to change" Nobu is curiously asking Hideki a question, while there is nothing more interesting to do "If it would turn out that you are a Reincarnate, reincarnation of who would you like to be?"

In this world, when a person dies he's soul goes to the void and then brakes into pieces from which a new soul is then made, goin on, to inhabit new person. But on rare occasions that does not happen, sometimes person who died was famed by his deeds and accomplishments, which gives his soul strength to not shutter and after centuries inhabit new person empowering that person with the soul's story

"Reincarnate" is name which is used to refer to people that possess soul's of great ones.

The soul needs to awaken for reincarnate's powers to be revealed, which happens on the Ignition Day (except those geniuses that manage to spark their souls on their own, before the Ignition)

Being one is a rare gift, it is presumed that there is one Reincarnate for every 3 to 4 thousand normal folk, so in their town with ~6 thousand citizens there could probably (if lucky) be one Reincarnate appearing on Ignition Day. Last year there was none, but on the year before that, someone turned out to be Reincarnate of some hero from 3 Great War

"My pick did not change, I would still want it to be knight or some other type of hero" Hideki answered

"Do you have any specific picks? You took my history book few weeks ago... and still haven't returned it, by the way" Nobutoshi continued with his curiosity

"I totally forgot about that book, you can come sometime and get it" then he looked up for a second and continued "Hmmm... Well, General Yosen, had really cool chapter about him, the book told that in his life he was so strong that during wars he was in, he by himself killed over 10000 enemies (without even talking about his leadership), sure it might be just a myth by know, but that does sound like his reincarnate would be powerful. What about you? Did you change your pick?"

"Yea, I did actually. Previously, my pick was Tolkien Aferus, the mage from time period between 3 and 4 Great Wars, and I still think he is the best conjurer mage ever, but after spending few all-nighters with books, I change my pick to the Damus, the Master of Divination. He is known to be the best divination wizard, it is told that he was able foresee his death decades before it happened and when he new it is near, decided to except fate rather then try fighting it"

"Isn't he also famous for bad memory and constantly forgetting his own predictions?" Hideki answered with mischievous smile

"F@ck you" replied Nobu and they both laughed

In such fashion they spent next 20 to 30 minutes, meanwhile people in the line where getting to the altar and then leaving with smiles, instantly trying to use magic for first time. Which obviously did not work

Once again person sits on their knees and sparks of magic are seen to surround him, after few seconds he leaves and it is finally Hideki's turn

"Here comes nothing!" tells he, before going to the altar (Those that are waiting need to be 5 meter away just in case)

"Good Luck!" Nobu cheers him

Hideki goes and observes the Ignition Altar as he walks towards it. It looks like a semi-circle wall with different runes engraved into it, on the floor next to it runes continue with hand shaped engraving in the stone

"Sit on one knee and put your right hand on to the hand engraving" instructs him a bishop and then walks away on safe distance, 5 meters away

Hideki does what was told, the runes activate starting to illuminate glow and it is seen that through channel like lines on the stone the glow spreads, going straight towards his hand

As the glow reaches his hand Hideki feels magic slowly going from though his arm, in what feels like blood vessels inside of him, towards his core like soul in the chest

And as it reaches the soul he feels sudden pain!

"AAAAAAA!"

For a second it is as if something exploded inside. And it didn't stop, now core releases magic trough his body.

Hideki looks around to find green sparks floating around him, when they touch any object a flower starts rapidly growing. Soon the Altar was full of vine like plants with flowers on it, with it comes realization that something is not write, Hideki instantly tries to let his hand go but magic flow that still goes through it, does not let him.

"We have a Reincarnate! We have a Reincarnate!" some bishop screams, notifying everyone else

But Hideki has other things on his mind, magic that is spreading through his body now reaches his neck and as it starts filling his head his sight starts blurring.

The church with altar slowly turn into beautiful visions of flower filled fields, with sun shining bright

With first reaction Hideki turns his head to look around, behind him he notices a village on the horizon. It is far away and closed by trees, but even from this afar view he feels something that he could only compare to nostalgia, even though he never seen this place and neither buildings look familiar
