Chereads / Monster Retribution / Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Everybody else stopped in their tracks. They were shocked at the events that transpired in front of them. Adrian stood there with Andrew's arm in his hand, bloody. He starts to move the arm towards his mouth.

"Stop him before he eats his arm!" shouted Emily.

Before Adrian could eat the hand a short woman leaped with two syringes and stabbed them into his neck. Adrian stumbled a little and fell on his back.

"What did you do Haru? Did you kill him?" Questioned Edberg.

"Calm down. It's just some sedatives with trace amounts of radioactive potassium. Works wonders on shifters and mutants." said the woman.

She picked up Andrew's hand and walked over to the bloodied man. She holds his hand towards him.

"Need a 'hand'?" Said Haru trying to hold her laughter

"You with your shitty puns. Get out!" Andrew said annoyingly

He yanks his hand out of hers and brings it closer to his shoulder. The arm starts growing tendrils from the blood veins. The tendrils wrap around his shoulder and pull the arm to his body. An audible sound is heard as the arm locks into the shoulder socket. The process wasn't as painless as his face showed, he had just gotten used to the pain.

"He ripped your arm clean off your shoulder huh?" Remarked Leonard

"I was going easy on him. What to do with him now?" Andrew said, trying to defend himself.

"Well isn't it obvious? He attacked you. He is a feral mutant. Protocol says that he needs to be killed" Haru spoke without any concern for the unconscious man.

"There has to be some way." Edberg was running out of options. He felt unsure whether his decision of bringing Adrian to the professor was a good one or not.

"Look Edberg. We all saw what happened here. That thing is no longer Adrian. It's a monster that needs to be removed from this world '' Emily said with a soft voice, trying to calm Edberg down.

Everyone had given up hope of a way to keep Adrian safe. His safety depended on how he would act when he woke up, and the way he did act was far from desired. But that's when Andrew spoke up.

"Actually, maybe Adrian isn't gone yet." he pauses to gauge the reactions of the others. He continues "You see, when I was fighting him, he didn't seem to be the one in control. His expressions were the ones of bewilderment, fear and shock. He wasn't the one fighting me." He turns to Edberg to face him, filled with the slightest hint of hope.

"Say Edberg, did you know whether Adrian had any sort of martial arts training or any kind of military training?"

"None that I know of. He was a village boy who came to the city when he turned 18. I am extremely sure he doesn't have any training."

"Then how did he avoid my punches? And not only that his movements were unorthodox. I haven't fought a single mutant who moved like that."

"Also he is right handed." Emily interjected to give some intel which she thought was important.

"So? That proves nothing."

"No, it does. Adrian didn't fight with his right hand. He was exclusively using his left hand. He didn't even use his right hand as a counter balance." Leonard was trying to piece things together.

This is the first time he had come across such a complicated case. He could think of multiple choices to take concerning Adrian and thankfully killing him was not the ideal decision.

"We can't kill him. His case is extremely noble. This is the first time I have seen someone act like that and I think that is the same for everyone present in this room." said Leonard as he turned to leave the room.

"So you are not going to follow protocol? You know that's illegal right. You could get into serious trouble for this." Haru protested

"As the shifter head of this area I have made my decision. If the humans have a problem with that then bring it up with your head of area. Only she has the power to contest my vote." Leonard spoke sternly. He hated when humans would treat him like a pushover. "Take him to some secure place. Someplace where he wont be able to harm others. I am sure that 'The Lady' would love to see him."

"I'll take him to my house. How long will the sedatives last?" said Edberg

"Oh I haven't really waited for the sedatives to wear off in the past. The longest the mutant was alive after being sedated was an hour. I'm pretty sure it lasts for more than that." Haru shrugs. In her line of work she never had to sedate a mutant only to keep it alive.

"You sure you didn't just overdose him and kill him?" asked Emily with concern.

"No." she scoffed.

"At least I hope not.'' She walks over to the body and looks at it. "His heart is beating slowly but he is alive." she says without touching the body.

"Well what if he wakes up?" asked Andrew.

Haru walks over to a cabinet and pulls out two vials and a packet of syringes and walks over to Edberg.

"If you think he is about to wake up you can inject him with this stuff. It's the same stuff I used. Make sure to remove the bubbles inside the syringe when you inject him." She hands him the vials and the packet. "Well if everything is sorted I think we should leave. It's getting pretty late and I have to make sure to tidy up the area. If someone were to see the mess that is this room there will be many questions raised."

"Yes we should make haste. I trust you will clean it up quickly." Leonard said as he walked over to his briefcase.

"I'll help her, don't worry." Emily said, turning to Edberg "Take care of both of you." She kisses Edberg.

"And I am the one Adrian is angry on. You two are in deep shit if Adrian still is a human." Andrew chuckles.

Everyone starts to leave one by one. Leonard was first to leave, as soon as he packed up his briefcase. Andrew changed his bloodied shirt for a new one and left as well. Edberg carried Adrian's body in his hands, to his car. Emily and Haru were in the basement for the longest, trying to put everything where it was before the fight. They finished in half an hour and got ready to leave.

"Why are you so keen on saving Adrian's life? Didn't you break up with him? He should just be another mutant for you." Asked Haru.

"We were dating for almost a year before we broke up. He thinks that I had cheated on him. That's why we broke up. Even if I ignore the part of us being lovers, he is still a good friend. And he is Edberg's best friend." Emily Explained

"Hmm, I get some parts of that. But the one thing I still don't get is how did you think it was ok to bounce back from that break up with your ex's best friend?"

"You are unaware of my past, so please refrain from making such comments." Emily was being defensive and Haru knew that.

"Sure, it's not my place to ask such things. But as a woman to another woman, you better think of a good answer. For if Adrian is allowed to live, then you will be asked many more questions than this."

Emily knew that what Haru was saying wasn't wrong, but that wasn't a good enough reason for Adrian to not live.
