Shattered by the news, Charlie knew he couldn't return home and face his family again. The news he had just heard was enough to leave him shattered for the rest of his life. Never could he have imagined that Emily would fall pregnant and what's worse, they didn't know who the father was. He never regarded her as a loose girl but the realization that she might have used herself outside left him shaking in fear.
Charlie had no doubt that if he went home and saw her, he wouldn't be able to control his emotions and might hit her out of spite and anger and that was something he didn't want happening. He had never hit a woman, it just wasn't his thing to do. His anger was a more silent one whereas his brother's was very violent and could actually hit a woman.
