Generally, that day is the coldest day of the year and receives the shortest time of sunlight. In East Asia, we called this day Dongzhi and celebrate it as a festival. Here in the southern hemisphere, the Dragon Boat Festival was exactly around three weeks before the winter solstice — which infers the day I let those beasts drink beers. What a coincidence!
