Chapter 76 - We came at a wrong time

I am currently with Constant. We are headed for the human world.

"I say the human world but it was actually created by one of the humans. There exists a plenty of human worlds. This is just one of them." (Constant)

He said that and now we are walking through a portal he created.

The portal left us at a field. It's a normal field.

"This is a world that was created by one of my friends. This is also my first time coming here. Let's find a city or town." (Constant)

We both start walking. The area is nice. It's sunny but not hot. The wind is gently blowing caressing my whole body. Somehow, I get the feeling that I know this sensation.

After walking for about 15 minutes, we arrive at a small town. It looks like a medieval town. Stone houses and stone paved roads. It has proper water drainage system and the town's folk look clean.

"The town is called Solomon. It is named after a wise king. Today is supposed to be a festival. But what, I don't know." (Constant)

So a festival. The town is kinda decorated so a festival, huh! We are walking through the crowd but no one is noticing us.

"We exist on a different plane so they can't perceive us. If you want, we can directly interact with them." (Constant)

"No. Let's observe first. Suddenly appearing out of thin air is tactless."

"True." (Constant)

We keep walking and stop at a crossroads. It has a fountain in the middle so probably a town square. We sit on a bench.

The people are nicely dressed. The children are playing however, I am noticing a lot of couples, I guess.

Men and women, walking hand in hand and eating chocolate. Wait, is it that?

"Constant, are they celebrating the Valentine's Day?"

"Now that you mention it, I think they are." (Constant)

Constant sighs. I kinda understand. Valentine's Day is an occasion which had nothing to do with me. I never received nor gave any chocolate to anyone. Constant is probably the same as well.

"Hey Akatsuki, how about we buy some chocolate as well?" (Constant)

"Huh? Are you saying, we should celebrate?"

"I have never actually celebrated Valentine's Day before. And I didn't make you celebrate one either. So how about we both celebrate? It has been a while since I last ate chocolate anyway." (Constant)

I don't see the reason to not celebrate.

"Yeah. We should buy some chocolate. Probably better than just making it out of thin air."

We descended down to this dimension and went inside a chocolate shop. The shopkeeper did give us a funny look but sold us some chocolate anyway.

We find an empty plot of land and make a house. It'll be troublesome if we don't have a house.

We did manipulate others into thinking that a house has existed there for a long time.

"Akatsuki, let me tell you something. I have no experience when it comes to making chocolate." (Constant)

"Me neither. Let's take it easy and do it as it should be."

I tell him. I also never made anything using chocolate. It's totally an unknown domain.

"We feel like lonely dogs, right?" (Constant)

"Lonely dogs? Are we even worse than dogs?"

"No. A joke from when I was a human. I suddenly remembered that never in my life I had anything remotely close to do with the Valentine's Day." (Constant)

"Stop it. Let's just make chocolates now. We can wallow in our loneliness later."

If we both keep saying that we are lonely, we might make the other lonely people feel despair.

We make chocolates. Not just chocolates but different versions as well. We made chocolate cake, cookies, an odd pudding, coffee, tart, mousse and many other desserts.

I don't know about most of them. Constant made them. When we finished, we noticed something odd.

Our home is full of chocolates. And I do not exaggerate. It is literally chocolates everywhere.

I am stumped. I guess he is as, well judging by his face.

"Ummm…..what are we going to do with this much chocolate?"

"Good question! Let's hold strategy meeting and decide what to do." (Constant)

I don't think we have any other choice but to eat it ourselves. But I am not a sweets person. I think he isn't either.

"Let's just leave it here. Let's go buy some other ingredients as well. You know, spicy, savory, sour, umami different flavors. Because, only sweet would be odd." (Constant)

"True. Let's go."

We leave to buy some more ingredients. Don't ask me about the money. We are paying them properly.

After buying tons of ingredients, we headed for the house. But something stopped us when we were in front of the door.

A boy, probably 13 years old, is sitting on our doorstep.

"Constant, what should we do?"

"Let's ask the boy. What is he doing here?" (Constant)

We stand in front of the boy.

"What are you doing boy?" (Constant)

He looks at us and sighs. Like he won't even bother answering.

"How about you come inside? You are blocking the way anyway."

I tell him. He stands up but doesn't say a word. We open the door and he follows us inside.

For now we drop our groceries at the kitchen and sit with the boy. Constant brings a chocolate cake and cuts it in 9 equals.

"Have a taste. We are proud of our cakes." (Constant)

He is saying it like we are some patisserie. The boy takes the cake and eats a bite. Maybe he liked the taste because he asked for another piece. In the end, that whole cake was gone. He ate it alone.

"So, who are you?" (Constant)

"My name is August. I am the prince of this kingdom." (August)

So he is a prince! Well he did have a regal air around him and his dress tells that he is from a wealthy family.

"So prince August, why are here? This place is faraway from the castle."

"I ran away. I got tired from the all the pretense." (August)

He exactly sounds like a tired rich man. I guess being the prince has its own disadvantages.

"I get it. You are next in line to the throne. Everyone around you is trying curry favors from you, right?" (Constant)

He looks at Constant like he was told something unbelievable.

"I never thought I would meet a plebeian who understands this so well. To everyone else, I am just a means to earning authority." (August)

"It isn't too hard to understand. However I am not a plebeian. Neither is he." (Constant)

Constant points at me and says. Well, we even aren't from this world.

"What do you mean? Aren't you citizens of this kingdom?" (August)

"No. We just dropped by. Once we have seen this world, we'll leave." (Constant)

Prince August is processing all the information he just got.

"Don't think too much of it. But I guess that isn't the end of your problems. I smell women troubles."

I don't know why I said that but it seems that I was on the money. When I said that, his face distorted.

"As the next king, I am to marry a girl of high standing. My chosen fiancée is the daughter of the Duke. But I have fallen in love with a maid who works in the castle." (August)

So that kind of problem. It sucks.

"I see. Well, as your senior, I can only say this. Don't regret your decisions. Whatever you choose, enjoy it to the fullest. If you really love that maid then choose her. Abandon your right to the throne. Throw away your position. Just become an ordinary man who loves an ordinary woman." (Constant)

Sometimes, he says really good things. And most of the time, he is spouting nonsense.

"An ordinary man?" (August)

"If you truly wish to become an ordinary man for the woman you love, I will help you." (Constant)

"But wait, did you actually talk to the woman? Is your love mutual or is it one sided?"

I ask. Before they make a mistake, I should rectify it.

"Of course it is. She is also in love with me." (August)

Damn! His confidence is something.

"How old is she by the way?"

"She is 15. About a year older than me. She works as an apprentice maid who is the assistant of the maid assigned to me." (August)

Hmm….a love with an older woman. I can't say anything.

"Hmm….older woman. A domain which I didn't enter." (Constant)

"You make it sound like you have dated younger girls."

"Well, even that's totally new to me."

Constant weakly laughs.

"And so, kid, don't take us too seriously. We are just wimps who ran away. The only thing I can say is, be true to your feelings."

I say to him. That's all I can say. Because, that is clearly what we lack. Why not push this kid to become a better person?
