When Dazai Kyoku was a young child, he knew that the world wasn't going to stay this way forever. The world would change, but not in a way that could be controlled, but rather by people. There will always be those who are different, but never enough for society to truly accept them as normal. Those who were born without ability, those without birth control or some other method to prevent unwanted pregnancies. No one really understood why people chose to hide their abilities and use them like weapons instead of giving it all up to become normal.
Dazai knew this because his own mother had been an Ability user and his father before him had been one too. They had used their abilities so much that they had lost sight of themselves and had forgotten how much power they had until someone had discovered them. It wasn't until they met each other and were able to see how much their powers changed things that they finally realized what they did was wrong.
The only thing they ever wanted was to give everything to society and make it safe for everyone around them. That is, until they met each other and started talking about something else. Their conversation became about how they had been able to keep their abilities hidden because they knew how dangerous it was. What if someone found out? What if someone discovered them? How many lives could be saved if they just gave everything away?
That was what made Dazai realize that he didn't want to live with this constant fear that people would discover his abilities. He wanted to be free. He wanted the world to know who he was without being afraid he would kill someone accidentally. That's when he decided that he couldn't do anything about his ability. There was no way he was going to risk anyone discovering his secret. If anyone found out then there was a chance that they wouldn't let him forget, especially since he's known more people than most. But even though he can't use his ability yet, there are other ways for him to survive in society without having to face the consequences of his actions. He had decided long ago that he was going to find a place where he would be accepted on his own terms and not because of his ability.
It took years, but he eventually got his wish. Nowadays he can use his abilities almost like he used to before. People still avoid him on occasion, but he doesn't mind at all. His life has become far better after getting rid of the ability once and for all, and while he hasn't had the same amount of freedom as he used to have, he is happier than he's been since he was a little boy.
Life is good, and Dazai hopes that it stays like that.
He sighs happily as he sits back down on his bed. Today has been absolutely wonderful. After meeting his two best friends, he has finally felt accepted into society. The only problem is now that they aren't together anymore, which means that they won't be able to meet during weekends. Which means that he won't have any fun nights with them, unless it's during a sleepover. Then he wouldn't mind sleeping through the night, but since he can't do that anymore, he might as well enjoy whatever time he has left with them.
His thoughts are interrupted by a loud banging sound coming from outside his window, making him jump slightly. He hadn't heard the noise when he woke up, but after looking outside he sees that there is no sign of anything. However, he is sure that someone is knocking on his window, so he walks over to the windowsill and pulls himself onto it. Looking down, he finds a small figure standing below with a determined look on their face.
"Who the hell is that?" Dazai mutters to himself, wondering who his visitor is. He takes a second to take a closer look at the person, and then his eyes widen slightly. It can't be…it simply can't be! But it is! "Godo!" he yells down, jumping off of the window sill. His friend looks up from the ground in surprise, but doesn't say anything. Instead, he runs towards the stairs and jumps down, landing gracefully on the ground. "What are you doing here?" Dazai asks, walking over to join him.
"I came here to talk to you. We need to catch up." Kyoku says, looking up at Dazai expectantly.
"About what? I thought we weren't seeing each other anymore." Dazai says, raising an eyebrow.
"We aren't anymore, but I still want to catch up. It's been a while."
"You have a point." Dazai nods his head slowly. "Well, let's go then. Where should we go first?"
"My house. I'm guessing you haven't been there in awhile either."
"True. Lead the way then."
"Of course." Godo says as he starts walking in the direction of his house, leaving Dazai behind him. Dazai watches his friend for a moment, a smile appearing on his face. Maybe this year was going to be a little bit easier than last year.
