"Why do you always say mean and hurtful words? One moment everything is okay, and the next moment it's like you're someone else. Why did you take us to your home if you don't want us there or if our presence there makes you so uncomfortable?" Vanessa asked, needing to understand Alex and why he behaved the way he did.
"I just apologized," Alex reminded her quietly.
"It's not enough to apologize if you're going to repeat the same thing. Is there something I do or say to trigger that switch?"
"Switch?" Alex asked with a slightly raised brow.
"Yes. The switch from the easygoing you to that... that mean part of you?" Vanessa asked, choosing to settle for mean since she couldn't directly call him cruel.
"It won't repeat itself. Going forward, I will be more careful when speaking with you," Alex assured her, not wanting to explain himself.
