Alex didn't know what to expect from Vanessa, seeing how she didn't waste any time in taking Sophia into the bedroom with her, but something told him that she probably was planning to move out that night, so he decided not to head straight to his bedroom as he usually did after returning from work.
Instead, he took off his coat and dropped it on the couch with his briefcase before going to get himself a glass of water from the kitchen.
He was in the kitchen when he heard the quick patter of footsteps, so he stepped out and saw Sophia looking around the living room like she was searching for him.
"Alex," she called once her gaze settled on him, and she walked over to meet him halfway.
"Is there a problem?" Alex asked as he watched her, curious to know what she wanted to say to him.
"Did you ask us to leave your house?" Sophia asked. Unlike her sister, he could easily tell her emotions from her eyes, which were a mix of distress and fear.
