Vanessa leaned her head against the headrest of her seat, with her eyes fixed outside the window to the fastly passing cars and buildings.
Being at the hospital and seeing Tyler's mother stiffly lying on the bed with tubes sticking out of her reeled back memories she hadn't quite thought in a long time — memories she has been scared to bring to the surface because they always made her emotional and frightened.
Seeing Carroll reminded her of her mother, or rather the days when her mother had been the one with tubes sticking out of her, blaring sounds of monitors indicating her fight to cling onto life.
