Vanessa looked over to the digital clock sitting on the bedside table the moment her eyes flickered open.
She was surprised to see it was barely six am in the morning— two and a half hours since she forced herself to go to sleep after Alex walked her to bed and placed that toe tingling kiss on her forehead before wishing her good night.
Though her body could do with more sleep, and the baby more rest, she had habitually woken up in recognition to the pattern her body was accustomed to.
She woke up just about this time everyday to take care of the chores and get herself ready for work.
Her gaze shifted to the soft morning rays slipping past the small opening on the thick drapes that shielded the windows and spilling into the room, and it reminded her of the days she had lived with Alex.
