Sophia was nowhere happy as she stared at Alex's seat being empty once again at breakfast, same way it had been at dinner the night before.
Eating without him was awkward and she knew he hadn't skipped sharing a table with them simply because of the reasons he had given last night and this morning, but rather because he was evading her sister. That was a fact and she'd be stupid to doubt it.
Alex might not say much during meals, but having him around felt different and...homely. It felt like they were a real family when he was around and she liked it despite how weird it may sound, because truly she missed having a complete family — her, her mom, dad, and Vanessa all sharing a table with hearty laughter as they all made fun of one another. But that was all gone and it had just been her and Vanessa for a while now. But having Alex had made it different.
