Their gaze met for a split second before Vanessa darted her eyes away, "Good morning," She greeted, and Alex nodded.
"Good morning." He greeted back before making a beeline toward the refrigerator.
He didn't know if it was just awkward for him because if Vanessa felt the same way, she didn't show it.
Neither of them said a word as they focused on their individual tasks.
Alex absentmindedly went about making his drink, but despite how much he tried to concentrate, his mind was overwhelmed by her presence.
He surreptitiously glanced at her from the rim of his glass. He could tell she was intentionally evading him by how serious she was whipping the batter that already seemed like it was more than ready to go into the fire.
It was obvious that they were both uncomfortable, so there was no need to hang around the kitchen longer than was necessary, he thought with a sigh as he quickly rinsed the glass and left the kitchen for his bedroom.
