Chereads / Lola: Lady Of Sorrow / Chapter 11 - Alone -1

Chapter 11 - Alone -1

I slowly blinked my eyes, waking up from my unconsciousness. "Ugh..." I groaned lifting myself. Everything hurt.

"Hey, hey, hey..." A female voice called calmly beside me. I leapt away frightened. "Ah!"

I fell from the bed, landing on the tiled floor. "Huh?" I looked down then back up, confused.

A young woman, seeming in her late twenties walked up to me. Dressed in full white, blonde, tall, and slim, it was obvious she was a nurse.

"It's okay dear... It's okay", she slowly lowered herself next to me. I shifted backwards, feeling scared and uncomfortable. A smile stretched on her face. She added, "My name is Linda".

I gazed at her from head to toe, then at the walls around us. I was in a hospital room.

"What's your name, sweetheart?"

I turned to her eyes, " How did I get here?" I asked slowly moving up. She grinned, "You were brought in by a couple".

I looked around once more, then back at her, "Where–" I began to hesitate, "Where are my sisters?" I became impatient and anxious. She held my shoulders gently, "Shh... It's okay, dear, calm down".

I moved back, pushing her hand off. She looked at me surprised then smiled. "It's okay dear", she sighed, "You were brought in here a few hours ago, alone. The couple didn't find anyone else".

I looked at her, then at myself, realizing I was in a patient's robe. "There wasn't anyone with you dear. You were just found unconscious by the road".

I rose my eyes to her, letting tears immediately slip out. I slammed my legs together, wrapping my arms around my knees. I began to cry. "Oh sweetheart", I heard her say as she moved closer to hug me.

I immediately moved back, hitting her hands away from me. I sobbed, wiping my eyes as I dragged myself back to the wall. She looked at me with a pitiful expression.

...

I sat on my bed, staring weakly at the plate of untouched food placed on my plastic bed table. I sat there numb, as my belly grumbled. Turning to the clock by the bed, it showed 2:14 PM.

I looked back at the food, unable to move my limbs to attempt and touch it. The door pushed open.

Linda slowly walked in, with a white-blond couple behind her. They walked to my bedside, as Linda came closer.

"Good afternoon, dear, hope you enjoyed your lunch?".

I replied to her with silence, dropping my eyes at my feet ignoring her and the couple. They turned at themselves then back at me. Linda then noticed the plate on my table.

"Oh. I see you don't like the food", she picked up the plate. "Don't worry dear, we'll get you something you like", she moved her palm to my hair to pat me, I moved away instantly.

She froze, staring at me with a surprised look.

Her face melted with a smile as she turned to the couple.

"Shall we?" She gestured to them. They gave her a subtle nod, following her to the door.

They walked past the door, shutting it behind them. I slowly turned my head to the glass wall, seeing their shadows.

Linda stood in front of them. I moved closer to the edge of my bed kneeling, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Are you sure you both won't wait? She hasn't said anything ever since you brought her here", Linda said.

"We know", the man answered.

"She's undergoing treatment isn't she?" The woman asked.

"Um well... Yes, Ma'am", Linda nodded.

"Then we'll take her home when she's healed", the woman added.

"But...", Linda stated, "We've requested for all the paperwork for her adoption and custody, Miss", the man interrupted.

"Yes, and we will be permitted to take her home as soon as she's fully healed", the woman moved forward.

Linda sighed, giving them a light nod.

"We'll get her a therapist as soon as we arrive home, she'll be fine, miss, if that's what you're worried about", the man said holding his wife's shoulder.

There was a long pause between them, and then Linda answered, "Okay, ma'am, okay air, when the papers are in, and you have the hospital's signature, you can take her".

"Thank you", the woman held Linda's hand. "Obviously", the man chuckled, "You couldn't even stop us if you wanted to, we just want you to keep us informed on her health as we handle all the paperwork, everything should be done this weekend", the man turned, motioning his wife to the opposite direction Linda stood still staring at them as they walked away.

I turned to the calendar on the wall, it was Tuesday, meaning I'd be going home with them possibly on Saturday.

Linda turned around and walked in the opposite direction. I sat back on my bed and let out a sigh. I began to pinch my fingers.

...

9:12 PM

I laid on my bed in complete darkness with only the security light from the window lightening the room.

I stared at the clock, counting the second's pass. My stomach rumbled as the door creaked open, with the corridor's light rushing in.

"Hello", Linda whispered tiptoeing in. I shut my eyes, immediately pretending to be asleep. She walked to my bedside.

I heard her pick up the second stale food from my table and let out a sigh. She moved closer to me, leaning towards me.

My eyes punched open as I felt her lips fall on my forehead. She sighed once more, adjusting the cover over me and walked out. As she shut the door, I slowly moved up, pushing the blanket off.

I jumped down from my bed, pulling the blanket with me. I walked to the seat next to the open window.

I sat up hastily, pulling the blanket over me. I folded my legs on the chair and turned my head to the night sky, staring at the moon. I felt relaxed and calm as the moonlight hit my face.
