Chereads / The Wolf Who Cried Witch / Chapter 4 - Second Prince

Chapter 4 - Second Prince

"There are still those who are suffering because of negligence, or because they are too far from the mainland. I believe the people's request to have werewolves supervise them too is reasonable. If people develop more empathy and be able to think outside the box, can you imagine how decent the world would become?" Prince Gavin asked, receiving stares from the people around him.

"But if we do that, aren't we going to tarnish our customs and traditions? We werewolves are rare at this time. Ours is only about 5% of the population while the rest consists of humans and other creatures there are. If we always let other people do as they wish, what would become of our authority? Our blood?" Princess Carrie asked, chin high and poised with elegance and beauty.

The class that was previously put on hold and was left by the professor turned silent.

"As we continue speaking at this hour, there's another child dying of hunger or disease in another place, unseen by the authority you pertain to. Isn't it included in our list to extend help when necessary?" Prince Gavin countered.

"Second Prince is right," another said, receiving different nods of agreement. "I believe it's time we also look over other people. After all, they are still part of our land."

"But it's too dangerous! Haven't you learned in our history that it is where the attacks toward the royal bloods always happen? It is when the royal member is alone and defenseless that they plan their attack and bring him down!" Another chimed in, adding to the chaos that sprouted more whispers and loud mutterings.

Princess Carrie looked at Gavin with a pair of serious eyes. "What you wish to happen is entirely impossible, Second Prince. But if you still insist, then you can suggest that yourself to the higher ups and see if they can entertain such wishes. My best personal advice is to keep the delusions to yourself, also, refrain from abusing your power."

With that, she turned around and left the room.

"I can't believe she really said that. How powerful does she think she is?" One commented.

"Exactly! She's just a daughter of a concubine and her real father is not even the alpha king. Even calling her 'princess' is too much already. Now she's playing as if she knows everything and that Prince Gavin is stupid. She's clearly the one abusing power!" Another chimed in which most of the class agreed to.

Gavin sighed, a frown slowly appearing on his forehead. There was simply no use of explaining to the people who refused to listen. Princess Carrie may have been too full of herself but she too had reasonable claims. Of course, Gavin respected the traditions and customs of their kingdom. But still, it didn't erase the fact that some of their people somewhere were suffering from hunger and illnesses. Even the professors left in a hurry for a meeting to discuss the sudden news leaking around the Capital.

Although it wasn't still confirmed, some rumors mentioned about an incurable disease rising from a particular region, far from the mainland. The news divided different reactions from the citizens. It particularly resulted to the idea of whether a high, powerful figure such as werewolves in the royal family should come and supervise the region or let other low-figures such as human mayors and commanders come in their stead.

"You've been studying about that town all day. You should rest for a bit," a woman suggested as she approached Gavin on his desk.
