Vera's POV
Something had shifted and changed somehow with Dan, and she had no idea what, why, or how to make things go back to normal. Dan was... different yet not. There was the obvious, like that he was taller, broader less lanky than before. Basically, he suddenly looked older, more like a man than the boy she'd known. She was amazed to see the man he'd become but worried things would never be the same again as when they were kids. There were other changes too that were harder to quantify, he was less scared and broken and far more athletic and brave than he'd been.
