Vera's POV
The next day Vera walked to school with her uncle Frank who was not in a good mood. So, it certainly wasn't as jubilant of a walk as the day before with her best friend. She couldn't help but feel like she was in trouble even though he said she wasn't.
None of the early morning market vendors waved and greeted her like the day before but instead ducked their heads and busied themselves with something facing away from them. You'd think after a few years the towns folk would stop fearing him and treating him like the enemy, maybe if he smiled more people would be more at ease. His especially dark glower today certainly didn't help.
