Dan's POV
Dan had never felt so cold and numb. He'd been taunted before, it usually made him angry, he'd had swords pointed at him thousands of times; though most of the time it was for practice and it usually made him feel nervous or annoyed. This time he felt calmly detached.
He knew the soldier in front of him, Kale. He was one of his brother's sycophants. He was slippery and arrogant with a cruel streak who got drunk off abusing the power and leniency his brother gave him. And he knew exactly who Dan really was and he didn't care, or rather he was excited by the thought of getting to kill a prince and get away with it.
He could claim he didn't know that the man in common clothes in front of him was the second prince. It was a weak excuse considering how many times they'd seen each other over the last few years, but his brother would likely find a way to pardon him.
