Chereads / Revenge for the Lost Child / Chapter 3 - Debut

Chapter 3 - Debut

After getting used to my body, I started equipping myself with various weapons. A monk's spade for melee, and whatever guns I found fun to hold, all of which ended up being handguns of some variety. In the end, I limited myself to a MAC10, with AP bullets. I know next to nothing about guns, just that I'd need AP for the missions I'd be on.

As I finished, there was a loud buzz, the bulkhead opened. "I see you're getting ready." The Russian man laughed. "No need for guns, those won't work against REPS." I would've rolled my eyes if I had any, and tossed the MAC10 (uzi) to the side. "Copy." I respond robotically, the emotionless tone in my "voice" a contrast to me clearly annoyed gestures.

The Russian man sat himself down against a desk, lighting a cigar. "Today's your big debut, sweetheart. It's good that you learned to talk." As he finished, information started pouring into my brain. My mission was to murder a "villain" who was scheduled to enter a nasty firefight with a group of REPS officers. I was told to cause as much carnage as possible, but to minimize casualties. Specifically, aside from the one villain, I'm told not to kill anyone.

With this information, I fasten my Monk's Spade to my back, and made my way to the door. On my way out, the man laughed.

I was not stopped by anyone on my wait out from the mansion.

As I walk the streets, a lot of people gave me strange looks, ones of curiosity. I don't blame them. With my overall appearance, and weapon of choice, I look like a young REPS officer, although a strange one with a curious mutation.

Of course the truth is that this isn't any mutation, but rather a violation of human rights. I'm not happy about my situation, not by any means, but I lack everythingI'd need to fight back.

Years of internet access and exposure to the lab have taught me restraint. I've been to corners of the web and seen what the outcome of an overconfident fighter is.

They end up dead.

I wasn't going to take my chances. I have to make sure they think I'm just a robot. On the streets I'm fine, but once they see what I do, I have to convince "them" I'm not thinking of rebelling.

During my inward thoughts, it seems I've arrived at my destination. I can see civilians run away, or approach (phone in hand)

Since most REPS (or heroes, as they will be called from now on) are distracted by the villain in question, it gave me adequate time to scale a small building, grab my monk's spade, and jump down.

Using the very high speed from my heavy body falling, I swung down with the force my chassis could provide, bisecting the villain below with ease, and creating a small crater from the impact. My blade, and body, are undamaged.

Several heroes instantly recoil once they notice what happened. They're all on guard, suddenly. "Young girl…" one of them said. It took me a few seconds to recognize them. "Yes, Mura?" My knowing his name put him off a bit, since most people only recognize him as "the goat king"

"Who are you?" He was visibly on guard, hand on the hilt of his own blade. I could feel the air thinning around by body, so I play along by grasping my neck for air I don't really need.

"C-Caliburn.." I fake distress in my voice, falling to my knees, supporting my weight on my polearm. Mura seemed to recognize the name. "Naming yourself after a holy sword, huh?" He seemed angered, approaching. A lot of the other heroes got tense all of a sudden. "I was only here for backup, but you seem dangerous… naming yourself after a holy sword? How confident you must be.."

As Mura approached, I swiftly hurl my body upwards with my spade, which had dug into the ground, allowing me to use it as a support to fling my body upward. My foot flew up, blasting the goat king upon his chin, and sending him flying back.

After hitting him in the chin, and while he's still disoriented, I use the force in my arms to remove the spade. Launching myself forward with a powerful kick to the ground, I slash at Mura, who had just regained his footing.

Startled, he took a sudden step back. "June 24, 2242, Cobble Street." I declare to Mura, causing visible surprise on his face, leaving him disoriented again.

Surprise swiftly turns to anger, as he draws his blade. "What does that have to do with this?" He snarled at me, and I get in a battle stance as well. "There were two casualties, and one severely injured. One 36 year old Martha Swan, and one 37 year old Richard Swan died, with their 7 year old child Athena Swan being orphaned."

Mura got visible more angry as I detail the events of the accident several years ago. "You didn't answer the question."

"I've answered enough, Mura. You can put two and two together." I tap my blade against the ground, checking my surroundings briefly. Minimal civilians, all at a safe distance. There are reporters in helicopters in the distance, broadcasting the fight.

'Gotta look photogenic…' I thought to myself, watching Mura blast forward with a burst of speed. Matching his speed with my own, our weapons collide. "You'll figure it out eventually." I said, slipping back and slashing the back end up my spade up, slicing Mura in the gut.

The blade didn't penetrate very far, but I definitely drew blood. It wouldn't take him out of the fight.

If I had eyes, they would be twitching. As I take advantage of Mura's brief moment of shock, and swung down with my spade. He looked up at me, causing me to freeze.

Those inhuman eyes were figuring it out, but my hesitation gave him the chance he needed to blow me back.

I caught myself on the ground with my spade, standing upon it, prepared to run.

What made Mura such a powerful hero was his extremely talented physique and skill with bladed weapons, not necessarily his manipulation of the air. Such an ability can only blow me back for a bit, and can't swiftly end fights by suffocating me.

He has me matched with skill- no, he's actually better than me. Much better. I could only shock him with information and abuse the window I had to attack.

My only way to win would be with raw power, but I'm not sure if that would even work.

I bury the blade of my spade into the ground once again, running forward at the young man as fast as I could. Quickly, he raised his blade in defense, although my next action caught him well off guard.

I press myself on Mura, and hug him. "It wasn't your fault, but I have to do this." He looked confused, then calm. I could see tears forming in his eyes as the victim of his greatest "mistake" seemingly forgave him. It pained both of us.

But just as he was about to speak, I interrupt. "Which is why I'm sorry.." I punch his gut as hard as I possibly could, yanking back my monk's spade. I quickly propel myself into the air, feeling no resistance from Mura.

On the ground, I can see him shocked again, the rapid fire of events proving to greatly disorient him.

I reach my destination shortly, the helicopter recording the fight. My spade digs into the deck, keeping me on it.

The cameramen and reporters look horrified, and I try my best to put on a distorted, scary voice that the masses will learn to "love"

"My name is Caliburn, and you…" I pause.. "you will learn to fear me." I knew this was live on multiple channels by now, so just to add more drama, I punch the camera and destroy it, then immediately propel myself away.

Job complete. Time to head home.
