Alexis' POV
By the time I returned home, it was a few minutes from noon and I was in a very cheerful mood. Spending time with Quinn does that to me. It was so easy to talk to him and he was very understanding, and his responses were always on point and exactly what I needed to hear. He didn't even have to put in the effort to impress me. At this point, I was sure he could literally just breathe and I'd be impressed.
I'd totally forgotten I still had to escape the claws of Harper, and unluckily for me, she was sitting in the living room the moment I walked in. There was no way for me to hide the smile that had been on my face since I stepped out of the cafe and she noticed it all too quickly.
"Guess who's home? If it isn't the bitch getting some from my boss," she hollered, jumping to her feet and tackling me to the floor.
"Oh my God," I screamed, laughter spilling from my lips. "I mean, it isn't my fault. Your boss is a handsome man and he seems to be in hot pursuit of this beauty here," I grinned, after successfully escaping her hold.
"Wait," she lifted a hand in the air. "So I'm right? You're fucking him?"
"Oh no, come on, I thought we were going with the flow,"
"Sweet. Now take a seat and relive the moments I missed until this point," without waiting for my response, she pulled me down on the sofa and I had no choice but to tell her everything, traveling back to memory lane, from the first time I met him up until our last moment at the cafe.
As soon as I was done with my story, Iris strode in and joined the conversation.
"What did I miss?" she questioned, abandoning her bag on the table and falling into the couch opposite us.
"Missy here is fucking my boss," Harper stated, smiling mischievously.
"Ohhh, damn. I like that,"
"I'm not fucking him. We're technically just friends," I rushed out in defense.
"Friends do not ask you out on dates, do not claim you as theirs in public, and do not look at you like they want to eat you alive or kiss you senseless regardless of who's watching," Harper said, countering my words. Iris stared at me, wiggling her brows.
"That sounds so hot,"
"He is. The kind of hot that melts your insides just from a single glance," Harper added.
"Damn, lucky you, Lexi,"
"I don't even know if I like him and want to go on a date with him. I mean, with everything that's happened with Ted and you know, the past, I just really want to be careful and maybe I need to focus on myself and outgrow the past before jumping into any other relationship," I finally confessed, heaving a dejected sigh.
"Come on, honey," Harper moved closer, draping an arm around my shoulder. "The past is always gonna be in the past and you can't let it affect your future. And I know Quinn seems like a dream but you can't rate him based on shitty Ted. I mean I work with this man and he's the most humble being I've ever seen. I haven't even seen him being promiscuous with women,"
"But then, he keeps his life private to an extent," I objected.
"Well, that's true but giving him a try won't hurt. If he does hurt you, I'll be ready to swing my baton at him and destroy his pretty face," this had us laughing but deep down I knew she meant it. She wouldn't mind losing her job just to protect me.
"And I'll be glad to burn his eyes with pepper spray. We still need to plan that revenge on Ted, you know," Iris chimed in but I shook my head.
"Oh no. Remember leaving the past in the past?" I reminded them, staring at the mischievous looks on their faces.
"Maybe after dealing with this, we can go with that?" Harper asked and Iris nodded.
"Not at all. I say we forget the idiot because he's not worth the trouble,"
"Good point,"
"On that note, I need a bath,"
"Stinky Lexi," they called out in unison as I walked towards my room.
My smile was back on my face. Having amazing people around me really does it for me.
A while later, I stepped out, freshly showered and dressed in clean clothes, just in time to hear my phone beep. I reached for it from my nightstand to see a text from Quinn that only contained a smiley face emoji. A smile took over my face as I wondered what it was about but on opening the message, I saw a previous message from me, agreeing to be his date for the dinner party.
A frown marred my face as I tried to remember where I'd left my phone before taking my bath_it had been in my bag.
"Harper, Iris…" I yelled, stalking out of my room in search of them. The resounding laughter that sailed into my ears told me all I needed to know.
Those little minions.
