Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Meeting

Elena's father beckoned her to the living room. Her petite 11 year old body crept towards his voice, nervousness enveloping her entirety. It was never good when he called her. She lightly proceeded down the stairs to see her father standing next to a man she did not recognize. To be fair, she did not see people generally, so this was surely a strange and important encounter.

"Elena, this is Adrian. He and I have been talking. He is very interested in getting to know you and maybe be your friend."  A friend? She had no friends. She was not allowed past their property. She would love a friend, although the man seemed at least 10 years older than her. Why would someone so old want to be friends with her? What could she possibly offer him?

"Hi Adrian. I'm Elena. It's nice to meet you." She managed not to stammer and was proud of her steadiness. As she spoke, he turned to look at her for the first time. She saw black hair that somehow had a tint of blue. His eyes were deep blue, like the depths of the ocean. He had a neutral expression on.

"Hi Elena. It's a pleasure to meet you." He smiled then, a smile warm and beckoning her to come closer. She caught herself moving towards him unknowingly. Soon they were barely six feet apart. He suddenly turned to her father.

"Andrew, call this number and make arrangements for her handmaiden." Her father's face grew red with embarassment. Who was this man, not only to demand to come but now assigning staff? Adrian's aura stifled any disobedience that tried to brew. Andrew walked towards the foyer and pulled out a cellphone.

Adrian used this time to look over Elena. She had raven black hair that fell past her shoulders. She looked like a porcelain doll, with pale, flawless skin. A smile that exuded hope and youthful excitement.

What captivated him most, though, was her eyes. They were as green as emeralds. He knew those eyes. Intimately. He silently stared into them, forgetting they were planted on an 11 year old girl. They hummed an ancient history. Knowledge of someone much wiser. He knew what hid behind those eyes, even if no one else did. That is why he was there. He had to secure her. He had to ensure the deal, details unknown to the stupid old man, continued to be upheld. Her own father did not know her worth. The mother had, though. The mother tried to outwit in a deal with the devil, and Adrian was all too happy to let her believe she'd done it. Until Elena was born, of course. For you do not just get off freely when you make a deal. There is always a catch.
