Damar looked at the distant harbour from his window, Lila was behind him. Their house, who had been a peaceful sanctuary once, now was a battlefield of wits.
"So, tell me, when you first met Stephanie, did you envision that the situations would turn bad like this? That she and her ragtag team would try to make me stumble on every turn of the way? That she would destroy what I've been working on simply because she took one pitiful look at you and thought: Oh, this married woman suddenly needed me?"
He prattled on. "That's what she was after, right?"
Lila stayed silent. She was immobilised on the chair because Damar tied her up with tape, rendering her hands and legs futile. He didn't tape her mouth, but she found no motivation to speak.
