It would be lying if Stephanie said that she felt zero ounces of nervousness as she blurted it out. How could she say such a thing? Did her brain malfunction?

Her jaw slackened and then clenched again. Composing herself as she tried to do damage control, Stephanie's gaze was set on Mark's flustered face. His handsome countenance and sculpted lines were softened when he heard the question.
Looking younger by many years, he asked her in a murmuring tone, "Did you mean what you just said?"
Stephanie saw no open path to take that back. It was her mistake, anyway, to flutter the dovecotes. She owned it up. Nodding sternly, she then lowered her head in embarrassment.
