One lady on the left of the main assessor threw wary glances towards the colleagues on her left and right.
It had to be working.
"What's in it for us?" A little voice, just barely above a whisper, came from the far end of the desk. A younger Council member around her age, give or take two years, brows furrowed too hard until it almost looked like a unibrow.
"Anna, you don't need to—," the main assessor spoke.
This Anna lady stared straight at Stephanie as if her gaze could drill a hole into her forehead to extract what the Companion avant-garde wannabe thinker led them to believe.
"You said this is an opportunity soon to be wasted if we don't act," she paraphrased. "But what's at stake here? I'm failing to understand the business risk."
Stephanie clenched both her fists on her sides to yank away the thought of strangling this lady.
